The most anticipated of the modern Disney remakes has arrived. Beauty and the Beast was adequate and Aladdin offered a nice time at the movies, but they were placeholders until Disney released its pièce de résistance, The Lion King.

The Disney classic enjoyed a strong opening weekend in China but a local film named Looking Up seems have dethroned The Lion King after just one week, according to the Hollywood Reporter. In America, The Farewell is showing early signs that it might be the summer hit nobody saw coming.
That being said, The Lion King has already made a lot of money – more than US$1.2 billion according to website Box Office Mojo – thanks to the mix of millennial-nostalgia and those same people taking their children to the flick.
