Happenings: The 32nd Golden Rooster Awards, which are known as “China’s Oscars”, took place in Xiamen, Fujian province.



Best-dressed celebrities at Rihanna’s 5th Annual Diamond Ball
The 2019 event received 277 film submissions for 19 award categories such as best director, best actor/actress, best writing and best picture. Mainland sci-fi film The Wandering Earth, starring martial arts star Wu Jing, won best story; seasoned Hong Kong director Dante Lam was adjudged best director for action thriller Operation Red Sea, and Wen Muye’s Dying to Survive earned him the best directorial debut award.

The night attracted some of the most brilliant and dazzling figures in China’s cinematic world, including Zhao Wei, Tang Wei, Tao Hong, Zhang Fengyi, celebrity couple Deng Chao and Sun Li, actress Yang Mi, actor Zheng Kai, as well as younger entrant Guan Xiaotong. Singer and cellist Ouyang Nana and actress Liu Shishi added allure, each donning a voluminous Valentino gown from its Resort 2020 collection.
