Meghan Markle’s favourite jewellery brands revealed – we rate and weigh the Duchess of Sussex’s fondness for Canadian designs

There’s a growing interest in the pretty things pointing on Meghan Markle’s ears and fingers – with a distinct taste for Canadian jewellery already evident, and celebrated in the Sussexes new home country. Photo: Handout

Since the Sussexes moved their home base to Canada’s Vancouver Island, Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle has been spotted visiting various local organisations in Vancouver, British Columbia, specifically those that serve women in need. The duchess is embracing life in the west coast city and making good use of her celebrity and media influence to do good for the community

On one of her most recent visits, to local organisation Justice For Girls in Downtown Vancouver, Markle was presented with a whale tail pendant in 18-carat gold accented with a single diamond. The piece was made by Indigenous Canadian artist Hollie Bartlett. Photos of Markle radiating in the necklace have sparked an interest in the jeweller's designs and indigenous art.

The whale tail is a traditional motif in Northwest Coast First Nations art.

Did Queen Elizabeth shun Meghan Markle?

This isn’t the first time the former actress has been spotted in jewellery by Canadian designers. Before marrying Prince Harry, she spent years living in Toronto on the set of TV series Suits; during this time, she amassed a collection of Canadian-designed jewellery.

Her favourite includes creations from Birks, a century-old jeweller with roots in Montreal, Quebec. For those unfamiliar with the brand, think the Canadian version of Tiffany & Co. – designs are classic, clean and elegant.

It would seem the former actress has a thing for the brand’s earrings.

One of her favourite pairs is the Snowflake Snowstorm diamond earrings. She also owns a pair of Plaisirs de Birks opal earrings from the jeweller, which she wore in her official engagement photo.

She also loves to pair her looks with the Birks Pétale large yellow gold and diamond earrings.

Many of Markle’s fans took notice when she stepped out wearing rings from Montreal designer Vargas Goteo.

The brand’s dainty demi-fine designs are a great fit for Markle, who prefers sleek and modern pieces over loud and large gems. She likes to wear the gold-plated Manta Kiss ring and High Seas bow knot ring together and often pairs the pieces with other gold jewellery.

The duchess does not discriminate when it comes to a good design; she wears what she loves, regardless of price.

How do Queen Elizabeth and the British royal family make their millions?

Suetables is one of the more affordable Canadian jewellery brands she loves. She owns two zodiac charms from the brand, one charm each representing her husband and her son’s star signs. Versions of these zodiac charms go for as little as C$50 (US$38).
