They were depressed. Some said [they] had suicidal thoughts. Some had been banished by their own parents and family.” He is the first openly gay CEO of a Fortune 500 company.

Paris Jackson

The King of Pop’s eldest child has said she is sexually fluid, telling ABC News reporters in 2018: “I came out when I was 14. I’ve referred to the community as ‘my fellow LGBTQ+’ on stage before. I’ve talked about having a crush on girls when I was eight in [a] Rolling Stone article. There are pictures of me kissing girls online.”

She said her father, the late Michael Jackson, was very supportive of her. “Instead of yelling at me, like most homophobic parents, [Jackson made] fun of me, like, ‘Oh, you got yourself a girlfriend’.” On Instagram she wrote: “And I'm not 'bisexual’, I just love people for people. I don't label myself so please don't label me. Thank you!”

She started as the clean-cut Disney character Hannah Montana, but Cyrus has evolved into a spokeswoman for gender equality. In 2015, Cyrus announced she was gender fluid, meaning she did not identify as being a woman or a man, and that same year, she told Elle magazine she was pansexual.

“I'm just equal,” she told Time magazine. “I'm just even. It has nothing to do with any parts of me or how I dress or how I look. It's literally just how I feel.” In conjunction with her LGBTQ+-friendly organisation, Happy Hippie Foundation, she held an #InstaPride campaign to honour transgender people.

The K-pop singer and star of Korean show Idol School introduced fans to her girlfriend in August 2019, posting a photo on Instagram of the two of them together. When one fan asked if she was a lesbian, Hye replied: “I’m bisexual. And I have a girlfriend now.”

Although many fans were supportive, others were malicious and hurtful, prompting the singer to threaten legal action against them. “I also don’t plan on demanding that people understand my love or bisexuality,” she said. “But why do I have to hear people say that I’m a misandrist, mentally ill, disgusting and other gross sexual insults?”

Fergie

When Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie (née Stacy Ferguson) came out in 2009 she was married to the super hunky actor Josh Duhamel (they divorced in 2019), but that did not stop her from telling The Advocate about her sexuality. She admits having sex with women, and said she told Duhamel she thought women were beautiful. “I’ve had a lot of fun with women, and I’m not ashamed of it. The problem is that I also love a well-endowed man.”
