Scared of coronavirus? Here’s 6 celebrities preparing for the end of the world – from Kanye West and Kim Kardashian to Ronda Rousey

Which celebs have prepped for the end of days? Photos: Instagram

When you think of a survivalist or doomsday prepper, an MMA fighter or Hollywood A-lister might not be the first labels to come to mind. Perhaps the idea of preparing for emergencies has been given a bad rap, a pastime typically associated with the strangest of the human species, like religious fanatics or zealous cults.

But it has been reported that some of the wealthiest people in the world have bought their own “doomsday bunkers” – from the creme de la creme of Silicon Valley and Wall Street, to those familiar faces you see on your television screens. In fact, these days, prepping doesn't have much to do with zombies or religious apocalypse but rather, being self-sufficient when the going gets tough – a sentiment we can all relate to amid the global coronavirus pandemic.

So, which celebrities are ready for civil wars, natural disasters or Trump's America? Which stars laugh in the face of panic buyers during the coronavirus pandemic? And how do they dress for the end of the world?

Bear Grylls

Yes, perhaps this is a freebie, but Bear Grylls is one of the few adventure survivalists who has reached international acclaim. If you could have any partner in crime during a natural disaster, it'd probably be this guy. A master in circumnavigation, skydiving and climbing, among many other things, there isn't a mountain high enough to keep Grylls from saving you – or better yet, teaching you how to save yourself. (Fair warning: it might entail drinking your own urine).

In an interview with The Telegraph, Grylls remarked, “Survival is not about being fearless. It’s about making a decision, getting on and doing it, because I want to see my kids again, or whatever the reason might be.”

Nathan Fillion

The sci-fi actor learned how to weld for, apparently, a zombie apocalypse. Appearing on the Conan talk show on TBS, Fillion shared, “One of my hobbies is zombie apocalypse preparedness.”

The Firefly star also once tweeted, very practically, that if he were to be stranded with anyone, it would be “a survivalist”.

Ronda Rousey

When you're no longer the UFC bantamweight champion, it seems you have more time to tend to your chickens. At least, that's what MMA fighter-turned-WWE wrestler Ronda Rousey's been up to at her Browsey Acres ranch.

This month, Rousey uploaded a video on Instagram showing off her doomsday stash in response to the panic buying crisis set off by coronavirus fears. From her egg-laying hens and freezers of meat, to her Tesla solar panels and rainwater catchments, her home is set up to sustain anyone in isolation.

She wrote, “It’s no secret I’ve been a proud prepper for years – but let’s all learn from this pandemic panic and be a little more self sufficient and prepared in the future. Taking steps to live sustainably takes time but ultimately saves money, permanently eliminates water and power bills, reduces our carbon footprint, and is just plain healthier.”

Kanye West and Kim Kardashian

Clyde Scott, the man allegedly in charge of Kanye West and Kim Kardashian West's backyard bunker, shared with Dazed 2017 that, “so many Hollywood stars have their managers call me and order them bunkers, then they get on TV and go with the mainstream media and they ridicule us. They are hypocrites!”

In said interview, Scott name-dropped Kanye and Kim as his esteemed clients.

He said, “Did you hear about Kim and Kanye getting one built? Yeah, that’s one of ours. I’m sure Kim’s will have a pool too. But look, my clientele goes up way higher than her.”

Zooey Deschanel

It seems like the Conan show is the preferred platform for preppers to open up about their habits, as actress Zooey Deschanel also revealed her preparedness for emergencies on the talk show.

She shared that her fashion choices are broadly determined by whether they allow her to “make a quick getaway”. Deschanel also added that she cases rooms for exits and has an earthquake kit, just in case.
