5 things to know about Anant Ambani, Mukesh Ambani’s youngest son

Anant Ambani, the youngest son of Indian tycoon Mukesh Ambani, grew up in the public eye. Even so, there are a lot of things people don’t know about this fascinating young man.

Here are five interesting facts about Anant Ambani you may not know.

1. He suffers from asthma

As a child, Anant Ambani struggled with chronic asthma and had to take steroids to keep it at bay. Unfortunately, the medication is known to cause increased hunger, and in Anant’s case, this led to chronic weight gain.

He was relentlessly bullied about his weight until he successfully combated it by walking more than 20km a day and doing weight training, yoga, and high-intensity cardio exercises. He also started watching his diet, sticking to low-carb foods and cutting out all sugar to get from 175kg to 108kg in 18 months.

2. He’s an animal-lover

Anant Ambani cares deeply about wildlife. He has been described as a walking encyclopaedia on animals, and he runs a shelter for distressed and injured animals.

He also is the owner of a number of exotic pets, which are kept at his residence in Navi Mumbai. He owns a number of dogs, including an Alaskan malamute that lives in a chilled section of the home that was specifically created to meet the dog’s needs.

3. He studied in the US

Anant began his education at Dhirubhai Ambani International School in Mumbai, an educational institution named after his famed grandfather. He then went on to complete his education in the United States, enrolling in Brown University in Rhode Island to complete his degree.

His decision to study there wasn’t surprising, given that his older brother Akash also studied at Brown University as a young man.

4. He’s involved in the family busines

Anant has not got heavily involved in his father’s company, Reliance Industries Ltd., but he is expected to do so soon. A few days before Christmas 2019, Anant gave an impassioned speech at a celebration marking not only the 40th anniversary of Reliance’s listing but also the birth anniversary of his grandfather Dhirubhai Ambani. In the speech, which later went viral, Anant proclaimed that serving the Reliance family is the most important mission of his life.

5. He’s a devout Hindu

 

Given the fact that nearly 80 per cent of the population of India practises Hinduism, it’s not surprising that Anant Ambani does too. However, it’s worth noting that he’s particularly devout.

He is said to be a devotee of Lord Balaji, a form of the Hindu god Maha Vishnu. He regularly visits the Venkateswara Temple in Tirumala and the Hindu temples in Badrinath and Kedarnath. He has donated a sacred white elephant to Lord Balaji and was recently appointed as a member of the Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee.

Anant Ambani has certainly had a great head start in life thanks to the fact that he was born into one of India’s richest family. Even so, he clearly isn’t one to coast along. The dedication has he shown to overcoming his problems makes it clear that this young man has the perseverance and grit needed to succeed in the business world.

That he cares about wildlife and social causes will help to ensure India has yet another benefactor who is willing to dip into his wallet to help out those in need. Anant Ambani may be just getting starting out but he undoubtedly has a bright, interesting future ahead of him.
