Natalie Portman and Jodie Foster are among the celebrities who were smart enough to graduate from some of the world’s top universities such as Yale, Brown and Wharton – who else?

When we think of modern day celebrities, we often imagine busy schedules filled with back-to-back movie shoots, song recordings, red carpet appearances and TV guest appearances. However, not all celebs were child stars or confident that they could rely on fickle fame to carry them through life. Certain celebrities have made education a priority and even graduated from some of the world’s top universities.

Here are seven top celebrities who are Ivy League educated.

Emma Watson – Brown University

Appropriately, the Harry Potter star studied English literature at Brown in Providence, Rhode Island. Altogether her degree lasted for five years, though she did take a year off in 2011 in order to continue working as an actor. Although much fuss was made about Watson opting to pursue a degree, she claimed she was able to enjoy a relatively normal university life. “I’ve never even been asked for an autograph on campus,” she claimed in 2013.

Natalie Portman – Harvard University

Much like Watson, Portman was already a Hollywood star by the time she began her undergraduate studies, in her case for a degree in psychology at Harvard. She entered her college in Massachusetts in 2000 having already made a name for herself in films like Star Wars: The Phantom Menace and Leon: The Professional. Portman reduced her acting workload when at Harvard and was able to graduate in 2003.

Jodie Foster – Yale

The same as Portman, Jodie Foster was also already an established actor by the time she turned 18 and headed off to college at Yale. She had already enjoyed significant roles in critically acclaimed films such as Taxi Driver and Bugsy Malone, a pair of films that earned her a Bafta by the age of 15. At Yale she majored in literature, working on films during her summer holidays and eventually graduating magna cum laude in 1985.
