With the world upended by the devastating Covid-19 pandemic, we need events like the birth of a prince – who also happens to be totally cute – to warm the heart and ease our worries for a while at least. King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Queen Jetsun Pema of Bhutan have just given the world a glimpse into their lives by sharing pics of their newborn – Jigme Ugyen Wangchuck.
With an impressive head of black hair and a ready smile, the crown prince, or Gyalsey, has already won many hearts. Here’s what you need to know about the world’s newest royal – along with snaps to tick all those #cutebaby boxes.
Gyalsey Ugyen Wangchuck is born
The king and queen announced the birth of their second child on their official social media accounts in March. The couple thanked their medical team and locals for their well-wishes. At the same time, they also reminded all Bhutanese to be responsible and supportive of each other during the coronavirus pandemic.
A king first
Despite having a newborn in the family, King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck maintained a busy schedule as the country braced itself for the onslaught of the coronavirus pandemic. Land borders were sealed and the king regularly made site inspections and visits to hospitals.
