Is Barron Trump the president’s ‘Mini-Me’? 5 ways Donald and Melania Trump’s only son is unlike any White House resident before

Like father like son, since this photo at Donald Trump’s inauguration in January 2017, Barron’s growth spurt has him towering over his famous dad. Photo: Bloomberg
From surprising educational choices to embracing his Slovenian heritage, Barron Trump’s life is distinctly different to what we’ve seen from most children residing in the White House in recent decades.

A blended family

With two divorces under his belt, Donald Trump is the president with the most ex-wives (Ronald Reagan was divorced once). With his older siblings Ivanka, Donald Jnr, and Eric from Trump’s marriage to Ivana Trump, and Tiffany from his second marriage to Marla Maples, 14-year-old Barron is the only one living at the White House, but his father opts to put his elder children in the spotlight instead.

Is Barron Trump really a secret gamer who loves K-pop and anime?

A younger version of the president

First lady Melania Trump previously said she gave Barron his “little Donald” nickname based on his personality. Recent images show he has shot past his father’s 6-foot 3-inch stature (1.9-metre), making him resemble the commander-in-chief now more than ever.

As the first boy child of a president to live at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue since John F Kennedy’s baby son JFK Jr, we’re watching an American leader’s “Mini-me” grow up before our very eyes. He’s the first preteen boy old enough to know his father holds the highest office since William Howard Taft’s son Charles Taft moved in at 11 years old after the 1908 election.

A famous second home

While other children of the White House have had privileged upbringings, Barron might not have been as impressed as them when he moved to the US capital. Barron was living in the gold-coated penthouse suite at Trump Tower in New York City and had an entire floor to himself in the iconic Manhattan building.

Michelle Obama admitted her daughters hosted a sleepover on their last night inside the most famous home in America so friends could enjoy one last luxury breakfast. However, with his dad a hotel and real estate mogul, Barron was already used to 5-star service inside a tourist attraction.

An alternative education

While children of presidents in the recent decades have attended Sidwell Friends, Barron goes to St Andrew’s Episcopal School in Potomac, Maryland. His mother Melania Trump has praised it for “its diverse community and commitment to academic excellence.”

How much did Melania make from her jewellery and cosmetic businesses?

Slovenian heritage

Melania is the only first lady whose first language is not English. Barron, born in 2006, the same year she became a naturalised citizen of the US, speaks Slovene and studies languages at school. Barron’s Slovenian grandparents, Viktor and Amalija Knavs, have also moved to the US to help take care of him when his parents are away.
