5 times Jordan’s Queen Rania proved she is a cool royal – from working at Apple to empowering women and writing children’s books

A commoner by birth, she uses her position to advocate for education, health and empowerment and in her spare time, stays fit and writes children’s books
Queen Rania Al-Abdullah has been making waves in the real world and on the internet since she came to the Jordanian throne in 1999. Born in Kuwait to Palestinian parents, Queen Rania and her family migrated to Jordan where she met her husband King Abdullah. The power couple has since been raising four beautiful children while leading their prosperous, historic Arab kingdom.
At 49 years old, Queen Rania has shown the world that being a monarch does not mean only following old traditions, but that it’s possible to adapt to modern ways as well. Here are five times Queen Rania proved she is no regular royal.
1. She has ‘a really cool day job’
Also dubbed as “Queen of Social Media”, Queen Rania has taken the internet by storm to reach more people and make a social impact. On Instagram, where she has six million followers, she describes herself as “a mum and a wife with a really cool day job”. Through her constant posts online, her followers learn that she certainly has one of the best occupations out there.
2. She worked at Apple before becoming queen
Prior to tying the knot with the King of Jordan, Queen Rania worked a regular day job. With a college degree in business administration from the American University in Cairo, the former commoner showcased her marketing skills at an Apple office in Amman. It was actually by accompanying an Apple colleague at a party that she stumbled across her future spouse.
3. She writes children's books
