Adele’s 2020: Pilates with Meghan Markle, extreme weight loss, a US$170 million divorce – 6 things we learned so far

Someone like Adele – she’s had a tough year, but fans cannot wait for the new album, but will she have to change the name? Photos: Instagram, Twitter, @adele, @Adele_Times

If there’s one thing the world can do with more of in 2020 (every year, in fact), it’s Adele. Whenever the British songstress drops an album, shows up at an awards ceremony or even opens her mouth, it’s an event.

Sadly, like most celebs, Adele has been laying low this year while the world battles the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and has failed to release her highly anticipated next album. Just imagine all our Covid-19 blues, but to the background soundtrack of new Adele tunes? She’s let us down as a human race.

Fortunately, she’s still human and has popped up on social media from time to time to give us life updates (and by this we mean her love for Beyoncé). And, sadly for Adele, divorce doesn’t stop for Covid-19, so it hasn’t all been smiles behind the scenes.

Here’s six things we know about Adele in 2020.

She’s lost a LOT of weight

We all took a collective gasp soon after New Year’s, when photos of an almost unrecognisable Adele popped up online. The singer was snapped by a fan on a beach during her New Year’s holiday in Anguilla with Harry Styles and the internet encountered it’s first major break of the year.

While the rest of us were still digesting our Christmas mince pies, Adele looked radiant in her new body. At the time she told fellow beachgoers that she had lost 45kg (100 pounds).

Does the sirtfood diet behind Adele’s weight loss work for everyone?

She used the Sirtfood diet to reach her fitness goals

As months went by, Adele seemed to make the most of her quarantine time by sticking to her diet and fitness regimen. Only as more photos slowly started to surface did we all realise the extent of her transformation. Understandably, everyone was asking how she did it.

It turns out the answer is through the sirtfood diet – a rather complex concept that revolves around a skinny gene that gets triggered by food and drinks that are high in sirtuin activators.

She still stans Beyoncé

She might be one of the most successful and loved singers of our era, but she’s just like us. While we’re obsessing over her iconic songs, she’s fangirling over her idol – Beyoncé.

She’s made no secret for her love of Mrs Carter over the years, so when Beyoncé dropped her visual album Black is King on July 31, Adele was a very happy fan. So happy, in fact, she posted make-up-free, matching outfit tribute to Beyoncé.

“Thank you Queen for always making us all feel so loved through your art,” Adele captioned the photo.

Pilates with Meghan Markle

What’s a girl to do in the Hollywood hills when the world has basically come to a standstill? Kill time by doing Pilates with the royals down the road, perhaps? Sounds good to us.

According to Britain’s Mirror, Adele has been going over to the Sussexes' rented house to take private Pilates lessons with Meghan Markle. Adele lives just a few minutes away from where Meghan and Prince Harry are staying in Beverly Hills, so we’re not really surprised they’ve bonded. Especially during a time when everybody is practically housebound.

“Meghan and Adele have been having Pilates lessons,” a source told the British publication. “They are loving it. The instructor has also been giving lessons to Harry. It’s a great stress-buster.”

Her divorce is costing her a LOT

The British singer and ex-husband Simon Konecki were married for two years before splitting in April 2019. Her request to keep details of the settlement private was approved by a judge, but in California, where she filed for divorce, spouses are entitled to half of their partners income and assets during the time they were married.

The amount must’ve been particularly hefty, because “details including financial, sales or other confidential business information will not be available to the public, while those who require access will be forced to sign an NDA,” according to British reports.

However, it has been rumoured that Adele likely agreed the award her ex with a figure that lies in the ballpark of US$170 million.

The new album has been delayed

In January, Adele's manager, Jonathan Dickins, confirmed that she would be dropping her next album in 2020. He told Music Week that “the sooner [it comes out] the better.”

The excitement got even more real when, in February, Adele herself confirmed that her next record would hit shelves in September 2020. But much like everything in 2020, the coronavirus pandemic ruined the plans.

Her manager told Music Week magazine: “It isn’t coming in September, it’ll be ready when it’s ready. We’re all in the same boat, you’re doing stuff and then all of a sudden, the world stops. It’ll come when it’s ready. I can’t put a date on that yet. We have music, but we’re still working.”
