Song Seung-heon recently wrapped up the drama Dinner Mate, a story about finding love and companionship by having dinner together. In it, Song Seung-heon took on the role of Kim Hae-kyung, a psychiatrist and a foodie with a gentle and caring character.

Debuting as a model in 1995, Song Seung-heon has never lost the public’s love and attention and still has more to show it seems. As he turns 44 on October 5, let’s take a look at four aspects of his life and career you may have missed.

His debut

Song Seung-heon originally debuted as a model for a clothing brand as a 19-year-old. He still recalls the episode in the show Radio Star, when he was offered to model while he was working only a part-time job. At first he declined, as he had never considered becoming a celebrity, but afterwards he saw a model casting advertisement from the same company and his friends encouraged him to apply.

A quick snapshot of him playing billiards with his friends unexpectedly made him stand out even more from other applicants and that set him on his path to stardom. Song has also recalled that the audition was competitive and he met famous stars like So Ji-sub and Won Bin in the final round.

Where he got his looks from

In May 2020, Song uploaded an appreciative post on his Instagram celebrating Parent’s Day in Korea with the text, “I’m so pleased and happy to be my parent’s son.” The picture of his parents made it clear where he got his good looks from. In a 2017 interview with Entertainment Weekly, he said that he had seen comments saying that “I’m not even close to being as handsome as my father was.”

His famous relationship with Liu Yifei

Having had a long acting career, Song Seung-heon has starred opposite a lengthy list of famous stars such as Lee Young-ae, Song Hye-kyo and Son Ye-jin. But in 2017, when he was asked who was the most memorable partner he had worked with, he replied shyly that it was Liu Yifei, now star of the Mulan remake, in the show Authentic Midnight – as they were dating at the time.

Song Hye-kyo opens up on acting, love and tough times

The couple met while filming the movie The Third Wave of Love and they made the relationship official in 2015. They shared many sweet moments during promotional events and shows, such as when Song showed his love by presenting her with a bouquet of red roses and saying: “I’m not a greedy person, but looking at you I think I might be,” and hosting a birthday party together in Seoul in 2016. However, their three-year relationship ended in 2018 with an official statement that they had become busy with their schedules and had a hard time not spending time together.

His life off-screen

He may look perfect, but Song Seung-heon showed his clumsy side when he shared his personal life on the show I Live Alone, a program that vlogs celebrities who live by themselves. He spent his time off on the island of Jeju this year and he talked of funny moments such as when he couldn’t turn on the induction cooker or when he struggled to turn on the television, admitting that he’s not good with machines. He will next appear in the first episode of a new show, Gamsung Camping by JTBC.
