You would think royal duties would take priority for those born into the monarchy, but a new breed of royal women are taking their careers in an altogether more modern direction. From the likes of British “It girl” Lady Victoria Hervey getting into the swimwear business, to Princess Deena Aljuhani Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia who did a stint as Vogue Arabia’s editor-in-chief. Read on for six royals who traded their crowns for couture and more.

Lady Victoria Hervey

Often snapped sporting a bikini and a to-die-for tan, Lady Victoria Hervey, the socialite aristocrat “It girl”, switched gears to become a businesswoman. With a brand new line of swimwear inspired by her Californian lifestyle, Ladyship Swim strikes gold with its wide range of brightly coloured bikinis and swimsuits. The brand continues to grow after making its Asia debut in Hong Kong, with a fashion show hosted by Dream Cruises in 2019.

More recently, Lady Victoria announced a collaboration with fashion designers Scott Henshall and Mark Lloyd for their jewellery range Hervey Lloyd Henshall.

Lady Amelia Windsor

She may be third cousin to princes William and Harry and 39th in line to the British throne, but Lady Amelia Windsor is making a bigger splash in the world of fashion. The young model, signed by the famous Storm model agency, has so far starred in campaigns for Dolce & Gabbana and Dior.

She even took her career a step further by trying her hand at fashion design in a collaboration with boot designer Penelope Chilvers, as well as sustainable jewellery brand Tada & Toy. This is one busy royal.

Princess Maria-Olympia of Greece and Denmark

Princess Olympia of Greece and Denmark is no stranger to the world of fashion either. Hailing from the Greek royal family, the young princess, who studied photography at Parsons School of Design in New York, has modelled in multiple high fashion brand campaigns. From Michael Kors to Dolce & Gabbana, side by side with Lady Amelia Windsor, her modelling career is no doubt heading towards success. Oh, and did we mention that her mother, Crown Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece, is a kids fashion designer too?

Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece

Although Marie-Chantal, crown princess of Greece, was not technically born into royalty, she was certainly born into the world of business. Raised in Hong Kong as the daughter of Duty Free Shops billionaire Robert Warner Miller, princess Marie-Chantal founded her own self-named luxury childrenswear brand in 2000, these days favoured by the likes of Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge. Her own love of fashion certainly influenced her daughter, Princess Olympia of Greece, mentioned above.

Moreover, fashion, fame and royalty clearly runs in the Miller family. Marie-Chantal’s younger sister – Alexandra von Fürstenberg – was previously the daughter-in-law of designer Diane von Fürstenberg, and her other sister, Pia Getty, is the ex wife of Getty oil heir Christopher Ronald Getty.

Princess Deena Aljuhani Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia

Princess Deena Aljuhani Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia had a long-standing career in fashion before marrying into royalty when she wed Prince Sultan bin Fahad bin Nasser bin Abdulaziz. Princess Deena of Saudi Arabia’s love of fashion apparently began at the tender age of six, when she was taken to numerous fashion shows and events. She opened a unique, invite-only fashion store called D’NA in Riyadh in 2006, before serving for a short time as Vogue Arabia’s first ever editor-in-chief in 2016.

Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya

Beyond her long list of royal duties, Princess Sirivannavari of Thailand is one royal with many impressive achievements under her belt. As the only daughter of King Vajiralongkorn of Thailand and his former consort Sujarinee Vivacharawongse, the Thai princess has managed to make a name for herself in the world of fashion and sport too.

Not only is she the creative mastermind behind luxury fashion brand Sirivannavari Bangkok, known for its elegant silhouette pieces plastered with her signature graphics and inspired by traditional Thai costume, but she is an avid equestrian and competitive badminton player. She even won a gold medal at the Southeast Asian Games in 2005.
