Last year, little-known Shloka Mehta-Ambani was propelled to global stardom when she married Akash Ambani, son of India’s richest person, Mukesh Ambani, and heir to the family business. Now a household name, Shloka has quickly gathered a following of her own thanks to her smart fashion sense, dazzling jewellery and philanthropic work.
So, what do we already know about Nita Ambani’s 30-year-old daughter-in-law?

She is a diamond heiress

Mehta was already well-known among India’s glitterati. Born to diamantaires Russell and Mona Mehta, her parents own one of the world’s largest jewellery companies, Rosy Blue. The Indian-Belgian company trades in rough and polished diamonds with offices in 12 countries, including Belgium, Israel, Japan, Hong Kong, USA and China. It’s reported that her own family has a net worth of US$300 million.

She married her childhood sweetheart

In an interview with Vogue India, Akash’s sister Isha Ambani said that Shloka has “always been part of the family for us”. The two heiresses have been best friends for 25 years and the same goes for her now-husband. Akash and Shloka both attended the family’s prestigious Dhirubhai Ambani International School from the age of four, dated for a few years once they were old enough, and eventually got engaged in Goa.
Last year, the materially blessed couple tied the knot in a three-day Bollywood fairy-tale wedding that took place in Mumbai and St. Moritz, Switzerland – complete with musical performances by Chris Martin and The Chainsmokers. The wedding reception drew a slew of Bollywood celebrities and even Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai.

She is a philanthropist at heart

While studying at the Mumbai family school, Mehta spent time doing community service as part of the curriculum, an experience she credits with igniting her future passion for social services, honed further by earning a bachelor’s degree in anthropology in the US from Princeton University and a master’s from the London School of Economics (LSE). After completing her studies, young Shloka returned to India and helmed the philanthropic arm of the family business.

She creates start-ups for volunteers

In 2016 Mehta and her friend Maniti Modi co-founded ConnectFor, an online platform matching volunteers with selected NGOs by matching their skills and needs. According to its website, ConnectFor has matched more than 24,989 volunteers and organisations to date, and was awarded the title of Best Start-up NGO by Ketto, Asia’s largest crowdfunding platform.

Her sartorial game is strong

From gorgeous Sabyasachi pink lehenga, to ivory chikankari by the Ambani family’s go-to designers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla, Mehta’s style is as classy as you might expect. The 30-year-old not only flaunts elegant Indian outfits, she also serves unexpected ensembles, like the gorgeous black Elie Saab jumpsuit she paired with a Judith Leiber boom box clutch for a benefit event last December.
