As the first black woman in history to become a billionaire, “Queen of All Media” Oprah Winfrey has made a lasting impact around the world and serves as an inspiration to her legions of fans.

Here are just a few of the former TV host’s daily habits – some more down to earth than you might expect.

She never sets an alarm to wake up

Like many famous billionaires, Winfrey is an early riser. That makes sense, considering that she’s juggling roles as the CEO of cable channel Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) and production company Harpo Productions.

What’s more surprising, perhaps, is that she doesn’t use an alarm clock. The media mogul revealed this in a 2017 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, explaining that she puts a specific time in her mind instead.

She begins her day with “a series of spiritual exercises”

Winfrey told Harper’s Bazaar that she devotes a few minutes of her morning to a daily ritual of spiritual exercises. Instead of browsing a newspaper or scrolling through social media, she draws and reads an inspirational quote card from her 365 Gathered Truths box while brewing her morning espresso.

Then she reads a daily digest email called “Bowl of Saki”, which highlights the teachings of the Middle Eastern Sufi sect. After that comes meditation.

She still cooks for herself and her long-time partner

Even though Winfrey employs her own personal chef, she occasionally does the cooking herself. In a 2012 interview with O Magazine, her long-time beau Stedman Graham gushed about her home recipes, especially her blueberry pancakes. She also takes pride in using vegetables that come from her own garden, avoiding buying certain ingredients that she can grow herself.

She ends the day with an entry in her gratitude journal

Winfrey certainly practices what she preaches when it comes to having a grateful mindset. Before calling it a night, she takes the time to jot down five things that she is thankful for.

From the smell of fresh flowers to the kindness of a stranger, she encourages others to find pleasure even in the most mundane things. The billionaire producer truly believes that “if you concentrate on what you have, you will always end up having more”, just like she said in Oprah’s Lifeclass.
