Chinese celebrities are some of the richest and highest-earning figures in the world. Many of them choose to invest their wealth in property, owning several houses in multiple cities in China alone. From singer Faye Wong to her good friend, film actress and director Zhao Wei, these A-listers own prestigious flats and mansions in the country’s most expensive cities including Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong. STYLE Property series: Celebrity homes exposed Here we take a look at some of the most luxurious of them all. Na Ying Na Ying was once known as the celebrity who owned the most property in Beijing. From 1995 to 2006, she lived in five different luxurious houses, including in prime locations such as Greenland Garden and Dynasty Garden. She currently lives at Tangshan Villa, known as Beijing’s most luxurious villa, which she bought at 30 million yuan (US$4.5 million) back in 2006. It has a floor area of 12,400 sq ft and is estimated to worth more than 140 million yuan (US$21 million) today. The collective value of this property is estimated at over 300 million yuan (US$45 million) today. In Beijing alone, she owns property at Palais De Fortune, a villa spanning 16,150 sq ft which cost her 30 million yuan (US$4.5 million); at Qingcui Park, along with her good friend Faye Wong; and Landmark Apartments. She also spent 6 million yuan (US$900,000) in 2006 on a 3,200-sq ft villa in Shanghai at Lakeside Villa. In May this year, Zhao and her husband spent 130 million yuan (US$19.7 million) on a two-storey penthouse at freehold Ardmore Park condominium in Singapore. Faye Wong One of the most influential Chinese singers in recent decades, Faye Wong is another celebrity well-known for investing heavily in property, owning several villas in both Beijing and Hong Kong. In Beijing, she owns villas at Greenland Garden, Ligao Garden and Green Park. The villa at Green Park alone is currently worth more than 50 million yuan (US$7.6 million). She also used to own a 20 million yuan (US$3 million) villa by Erhai Lake in Yunnan, which she used as a holiday house. She bought the flat in 1995, and she uses it today as a place for gatherings for friends and family. Actor Leslie Cheung used to live on the 9th floor in the same building. Her flat in Shanghai is located in The Peninsula condominium on The Bund, the city’s prime property spot. It’s estimated to be worth around 100 million yuan (US$15 million) and has an area of roughly 4,300 sq ft. Lau has revealed that almost all of her houses, including this one, were designed by William Chang, a Hong Kong production designer and film editor who is also an important collaborator with cult-status director Wong.
