Even for A-listers, Christmas is looking bleak in times of Covid-19: Chungha is among a wave of K-pop stars to test positive, while in the Philippines, boxing legend PacMan is plotting relief efforts with Jack Ma and – perhaps – UFC’s Conor McGregor

The only “C” we want to hear about in December is “Christmas”, but sadly it seems this year’s festive season is all about Covid-19: who’s got it, who hasn’t, and how some stars are living their best lives despite the pandemic.

During the pandemic, Manny Pacquiao has teamed up with Jack Ma – co-founder of the Alibaba Group, publisher of the South China Morning Post – to bring aid and Covid-19 relief to the Philippines. There is also continuing speculation about a boxing match with multiple former UFC champion Conor McGregor to raise further funds for the relief effort – and even rumours about a possible presidential run in 2022.

As Covid-19 ravaged the globe throughout 2020, some countries and regions were lauded for the efficient and effective measures they took. One of these was South Korea, which implemented widespread testing that temporarily slowed down the virus’ spread. However, the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) reported five days straight of over 300 new daily cases in November, a worrying development that prompted the shut down of Seoul.

Even our favourite K-celebrities haven’t been safe. A string of K-pop stars have caught Covid-19 during its more recent waves. Here are the latest to have caught Covid-19, and what we know about their situations.
