From Big Bang to Blackpink , YG Entertainment has granted K-pop fans many happy moments with its brilliant artists in recent years. And this year – four years after Blackpink’s debut – YG Entertainment gave us new boy band Treasure. Since its members were selected through TV programme YG Treasure Box, which ran from late 2018 to early 2019, many K-pop fans have been keeping an eye out for Treasure’s debut. The group’s first appearance was originally slated for 2019, but it was postponed. Thankfully, Treasure finally made their record-breaking debut in early August and are already on their third single, “The First Step: Chapter Three” . STYLE scored an exclusive interview and asked the group some of our most pressing questions. How K-pop genius Rain became one of Korea’s richest celebrities How did it feel to produce so many singles so quickly this year? Park Jeong-woo : I am really grateful to be able to show the many different charms of Treasure. We’ll continue to give you guys good performances! Bang Ye-dam : It’s amazing that we could make new records that fast. I am thankful that I was able to train myself for things like this. It’s really great to be able to have many attempts in a short period of time. Choi Hyun-suk : I am thankful to the staff who always helped us make new singles. I’ve also appreciated seeing our members get closer to each other and be able to communicate more deeply. Reel to real: which of these 6 off-screen K-drama romances were built to last? Park Ji-hoon : We released three singles in less than 100 days. We tried our best knowing that this would be a great opportunity to show how passionate we are about our music. We also put a great deal of effort into perfecting our performances. Tell us more about the songs Mmm and Orange from the single. Treasure: Mmm is a hip-hop-trap hybrid with an impressive groove and addictive rhythm. We think it shows off our personality and ability to dance powerfully as a group. Why the internet is crazy for Aespa’s Karina – only a month after debut Orange is a warm ballad that tells the story of a man and a woman holding each other beneath an orange sunset because they don’t want to be apart – and Asahi participated as a composer and lyricist! What was it like to participate in the song production? Choi Hyun-suk : I took part in creating the raps again this time, and I’m grateful to be able to express what we want to share by participating in the production. As a general process, Yoshinori, Haruto and I have a discussion after setting the topic, then move on to individual production. Yoshi : I’m also pleased to be able to share the thoughts and feelings that I could only have during this period of my life through the lyrics. Why Twice have the most fateful origins story in K-pop Asahi : I took part in composing and writing lyrics for Orange earlier this year. I started working on this song right after thinking of the melody. I took down the beat, shared it with Haruto, Haruto added raps to it, and we recorded. I continued providing my ideas and comments throughout the recording. I can definitely say we have grown in comparison to the songs we worked on before. Now I think we have better taste when it comes to choosing harmonious instruments. Covid-19 and K-pop: 7 idols who tested positive Haruto : I created the rap for Mmm and wrote lyrics for Orange . I wrote the lyrics at dawn after receiving the beat from Asahi, and I felt that I could write good lyrics since the beat itself was really good. I’m personally really happy that we could join in with the production. What were your most memorable moments while working on the single? Treasure: The most memorable thing for us was that we were able to participate in the production, composing and writing lyrics for “The First Step: Chapter Three”. It was also interesting to film our music video at YG Entertainment’s headquarters! IU, the K-pop millionaire who gives much of her fortune away Who is the most charming member of Treasure? And who acts like the big brother? Treasure: The one with the most aegyo [cute appeal] is also the one commonly acknowledged to be the group’s maknae [‘youngest sibling’ in Korean] – Choi Hyun-suk! And our leader, Ji-hoon acts like the big brother. Want more stories like this? Sign up here . Follow STYLE on Facebook , Instagram , YouTube and Twitter .
