Anna Wintour, Hillary Clinton’s daughter Chelsea and Shameless and Mr. Robot star Emmy Rossum all turned their backs on Trump’s daughter after he became US president – but why?

Donald Trump’s move into politics didn’t just affect his daughter Ivanka’s career prospects – it has taken its toll on her personal life too.

Although some of her friends have stood by her, don’t expect to see Ivanka schmoozing with these formerly close pals any time soon.

Before Trump’s 2016 election win, Bill and Hillary Clinton’s daughter was often seen on the events circuit with socialite Ivanka, but the pair haven’t associated since. The Democrat admitted on Watch What Happens Now in October 2020 that she hadn’t spoken to Ivanka – previously a registered Democrat – since the beginning of Trump’s Republican campaign, noting “it’s just really hard when there’s someone who’s actively embracing their candidate — whether it’s their father or not … I don’t want to be friends with someone like that.”

The Shameless actress and Ivanka were friends for years, with Rossum even attending her wedding to Jared Kushner in 2009. But by the time Rossum wed her Mr. Robot creator partner in 2017, the pair were no longer on good terms. The TV star has been publicly outspoken in her opposition to the Trump administration and so it’s assumed Ivanka no longer invites her over for dinner – something she told Hamptons magazine in 2013 was one of her favourite things to do.
