MMA fans are eagerly awaiting the return of Conor McGregor to the octagon on Fight Island in Abu Dhabi this weekend – and The Notorious is definitely ready. The once-retired UFC champ arrived early, making a lavish entrance befitting the flashiest fighter on earth.

After finishing at a training camp in Dubai, McGregor hired a private yacht to take him to the UAE’s neighbouring emirate, before arriving at the W Abu Dhabi hotel in a Rolls-Royce surrounded by a beefed-up security team.

But what’s a trip to the desert without blinging out with some luxury watches and a snazzy new ride? McGregor, known to have a love for anything with a million-dollar tag, apparently stopped by Jacob & Co., a privately held jewellery and wristwatch retailer, to adorn himself in a diamond extravaganza.

Here’s the lowdown on how McGregor made his Abu Dhabi entrance …

The yacht

“This is the best Conor I’ve seen ever, and I’ve been with him almost a decade now,” McGregor’s manager, Audie Attar, told UAE broadsheet The National.

“The guy doesn’t have to work a day in his life. He made more money this year not fighting ... So to see him hungry to compete, hungry to continue to evolve, hungry to prove all the naysayers wrong and hungry to prove who he really is ... that to me is exciting.”

McGregor, who has spoken before about visualising his fights and his victories, posted pictures of himself on the yacht he hired while en route from Dubai to Abu Dhabi.

The US$1 million watch

McGregor got dragged by netizens after posting images of himself with his ostentatious new wrist candy. He wore a Jacob & Co. Astronomia Tourbillion Baguette in rose gold, bedazzled with 342 invisibly set baguette cut diamonds on the backdrop, 80 invisibly set baguette cut diamonds on the lugs, and 133 triangle cut white diamonds on the base dial. Now that’s a lot of diamonds.

But why stop at just one dizzyingly expensive watch? McGregor also showed off The Rasputin Tourbillon Erotic Minute Repeater, also by Jacob & Co., described as a watch with “many secrets and concealed debauchery”.

The brand states that watches have a history of eroticism, and this particular watch reveals a raunchy scene with the push of a lever. The price tag varies, but McGregor splashed out a whopping US$2 million for his.

Yet again, however, netizens were unimpressed with McGregor’s taste in timepieces.

With new watches comes a new ride, of course. The fighter drove a Rolls-Royce to pick up his new Bentley. On Instagram he simply said “new watch, new suit, new whip alert”.

But wait, what about the fight?

With all the buzz around McGregor’s new goodies, it’s easy to forget the reason he’s in Abu Dhabi in the first place: for his epic fight against Dustin Poirier in UFC 257.

It’s not the first time the two have faced each other. Back in 2014, when McGregor was just starting to make a name for himself, he beat Poirier in a first-round knockout.

The fight has been billed as a major game-changer for McGregor, with many waiting to see if he still holds the power in the octagon after being inactive for the past few years.
