What’s going on with Donald Trump’s Indonesian tourism resort? 60km from Jakarta, Lido City’s Movieland studio aims to be Asia’s answer to Hollywood

- The Lido City project is a Special Economic Zone opening the way for tax breaks, with The Trump Organization behind a planned resort, villas and golf course
- Billionaire tycoon Hary Tanoesoedibjo’s MNC Group is also building a tourism and golf development with Trump in Bali
With the presidency behind him, Donald Trump can focus again on his considerable business interests at home and abroad. One project that is likely to be on the agenda is that with tycoon Hary Tanoesoedibjo, the Indonesian billionaire behind a new movie studio currently in development, which will form part of a larger tourism complex on the island of Java.
Lido City is the umbrella project located around 60km (37 miles) south of the capital Jakarta in the Bogor area, where the Trump Organisation will operate luxury villas, a resort and a golf course. We guess we know where the Trumps will spend their holidays in a post-pandemic world.

“For around 1,000 hectares in Bogor Regency, a special economic zone permit has been obtained,” MNC Group executive chairman Tanoesoedibjo said in a text message, adding the movie studios will be wholly controlled by his company.
The designation means the project can benefit from corporate tax cuts, luxury goods sales tax cuts and get some leniency on permits, PT MNC Studios International, part of the MNC Group said. Sounds like good news for fashionista Melania and co.

Tanoesoedibjo told local media he hoped the Movieland studios will become a creative hub and Indonesia’s version of Hollywood.
