The 78th Golden Globes might have gone digital in light of Covid-19, but after a full year of lockdowns and restricted socialising, lounging around in sweatpants and minimal make-up, there’s perhaps more reason than ever to look to the red carpet for a bit of sparkle and glamour, even for a virtual event.

Actresses and actors brought colour, humour and extravagance to the red carpet with their fashion and jewellery choices. From sleek watches to mega-sparkly diamonds, here’s a look at who shone the brightest during the year’s most star-studded watch party.

Emma Corrin

The actress who played Diana in Netflix’s The Crown swapped royal jewels for diamonds by the jeweller to kings, Cartier. In a black velvet Miu Miu dress, with puff sleeves and a statement white ruffled neckline, the actress opted for simple diamond and emerald earrings, and a single matching ring.

Dressed in a coral backless dress, the actress paired her look with a pink gold and diamond Jaeger-LeCoultre 101 Feuille watch, plus Forevermark Exceptional Diamond Vivid Yellow Drop Earrings.

Nicholas Hoult

The young actor kept it classic with a velvet jacket and a Reverso Tribute Small Seconds from Jaeger-LeCoultre. The watch is one of the most recognisable designs from the brand and was first created for polo players.

Carey Mulligan

The actress’ natural blond waves made an ideal accompaniment to the cluster Cartier earring and ring she wore for the event. She opted to keep her neck bare and allowed the bateau neckline of her blush satin dress to take centre stage.

Gal Gadot

As her characters did in the films Wonder Woman 1984 and Death on the Nile, Gal Gadot wore designs from Tiffany & Co. for the evening. A pendant on a long chain was the perfect complement to the white above-the-knee dress she picked. The necklace features a bicolour zoisite set with diamonds in yellow gold and is part of the jeweller’s Blue Book Collection.

Winning a best actress award for her role in the Netflix show The Queen’s Gambit, Anya Taylor-Joy gave us Jessica Rabbit vibes. Her flowing blond locks made a bold contrast to the emerald green Dior dress with its plunging neckline. Her look was completed with over US$1 million worth of diamonds spread over earrings, a necklace and a ring from Tiffany & Co.’s Blue Book Collection.

Isla Fisher

Also channelling that 1980s bold shoulder silhouette was Isla Fisher, who offered the evening a bright pop of colour, dressed in neon pink. She chose to wear white diamond earrings, necklace and a ring from Van Cleef & Arpels.

Elle Fanning

In a crisp silky blue dress with jewelled straps from Gucci, the actress kept accessorising to a minimum with just a pair of diamond chandelier earrings. The earrings are from renowned American jeweller, Fred Leighton.
