What’s Cantopop star Gigi Leung like as a mum? The Hong Kong actress and singer stepped back from the spotlight after starting a family – and these Instagram posts show how she’s spoiling daughter Sofia instead

Hong Kong 90s icon Gigi Leung lives a charmed life. Besides being famous for her sweet nightingale tunes and slender figure, her marriage sounds like something out of a story book.

Leung met her husband, Sergio Crespo Gutes, on a trip to Spain in 2011. Introduced to Leung by mutual friends, Gutes had no idea that she was a megastar in her hometown. The Aberdeen star said in interviews that she was taken by Gutes’ sincerity and the two got married within six months of dating, shocking both fans and the media. They welcomed their daughter Sofia into the world in 2015.

Fast forward to the present and Leung has taken a step back from the limelight, making fewer films and only signing up for short-term commitments. But judging by her Instagram, she is still enjoying her life as mother, entrepreneur and celebrity.

Ahead of her 45th birthday on March 25, which she will undoubtedly celebrate with her family, we take a look at what a great mother she is …

Nurturing her daughter’s creative side

After her daughter Sofia saw a stage production of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, she told her mum that she wanted to make the same puppets. Leung instantly got on her hands and knees and created some awesome artwork together with her beloved daughter.

Sharing her passion for pottery

Not everyone can find a hobby they’re passionate about, but it can be truly inspiring to share that passion with your kids when you do. Leung has been posting some exquisite pottery creations on Instagram, along with photos of her sharing the experience with Sofia.

Baking up a storm

Leung has apparently been using her Covid-19 downtime quite well. She completed a Disciples Escoffier diploma in pastry course and has vowed to go back for more. She also baked a gorgeous cake for Sofia’s sixth birthday.

Being plain silly

Getting excited over the holidays is always fun, but being silly with mum and dad can make memories forever. It seems like Halloween was a riot in the Gutes-Leung household last year.

Little shop of love

Leung and her husband enjoy being parents to Sofia so much that they made it part of their business. The couple brought Nanos, a Spanish children’s clothing store, to Hong Kong in 2018, and a second branch has opened in Tsim Sha Tsui too.
