Donald Trump

  • No White House job for Joshua Kushner, but his venture capital firm Thrive Capital has investments in Instagram, ClassPass and Kim Kardashian’s Skims
  • His wife Karlie Kloss isn’t afraid to voice her political opinions on Twitter, and once cancelled a contract with Victoria’s Secret to study feminist theory

Yes, Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner dominated headlines after Donald Trump was elected as the 45th US president. After all, the couple are rich, have powerful political connections and had prominent White House roles. Now, after losing their employment status, the couple are busy regrouping and figuring out what’s next.

But running parallel to their journey is that of the “other” Kushner brother Joshua and his supermodel wife, Karlie Kloss. The couple are outspoken about their opposition to Trump and have their own family feuds – and their own millions of dollars to spend, too. Here’s what you need to know about them.

The basics

The couple met in 2012 and kept a low profile. Even though they were seen at events together, they hardly spoke about their relationship, according to Business Insider. They got married in a small ceremony in upstate New York in 2018. People magazine reports that Kloss wore a custom Dior dress that took 700 hours to make. They welcomed their first baby, Levi Joseph, on March 11.

Political differences

Just because they are linked to the Trumps doesn’t mean Kushner and Kloss agree with their politics. In fact, Kloss has been outspoken about her support for the Democrats. After rioters stormed the US Capitol in January, the model spoke out on Twitter, calling the refusal to accept election results “anti-American”. When another Twitter user suggested she tell her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Kloss didn’t hesitate to make it clear where she stands.

In an interview with British Vogue in 2019, she said the differing political views within the family had “been hard”. Kloss said instead of buckling to pressure to stand with the then Trump presidency, she focused on her relationship with Joshua and the “same liberal” views that guided her throughout her life.
