The 2021 Academy Awards adapted to the times with numerous satellite red carpets around the world live-feeding to the main event at Union Station in Los Angeles. The evening gave audiences a much-needed opportunity to indulge in some glamour, and the style choices were as colourful as they were diverse this year, with stars shining as brightly as their jewels. Here’s a look at some of the high-shine looks spotted on the red carpet this year. Jay-Z is now worth US$1.4 billion Zendaya In a sunny yellow cut-out gown, the actress radiated in diamonds from Bulgari’s High Jewellery collection. She opted to wear two diamond collars and a necklace with a yellow and white diamond pendant; she wore the design without its detachable diamond tassels. She also had on rings from the house, including a 21.14 carat fancy intense yellow diamond ring. Andra Day The singer-turned-actor, nominated for best actress for her role in The United States vs. Billie Holiday, walked the red carpet in a custom-made Vera Wang gold chain mail dress. Accenting her golden look were US$2 million worth of jewels from Tiffany & Co., including a pair of drop earrings with two emerald cut yellow diamonds weighing a total of over 12 carats. She complemented the earrings with a Tiffany & Co. Schlumberger Cooper bracelet in platinum and 18k yellow gold with over 465 Tiffany diamonds, and a stack of Tiffany T rings. Youn Yuh-jung The first Korean actor to take home an award for an acting category at the Oscars, the septuagenarian walked the red carpet in an elegant navy blue gown. Accompanying her look were gems from Chopard, including an oval-cut sapphire and white diamond earrings. Regina King The actress and director arrived on the red carpet in a light blue bejewelled dress, pairing her look with diamond earrings, rings and a bracelet from the Forevermark by Rahaminov collection. Work out like Kim Kardashian or Kylie Jenner to lose weight Amanda Seyfried In a stunning red tulle Armani Prive dress, Seyfried, who was nominated for her supporting role in the film Mank, wore halo-set diamond earrings from the Forevermark by Premier Gem collection along with an assortment of bangles and a ring from the jeweller’s Black Label collection. Olivia Coleman The Crown actress and nominee for best supporting actress for her role in The Father, Olivia Colman joined in on the festivities in London dressed in a bold red Dior Haute Couture dress, adding touches of glamour to her look with jewels from Chopard. She framed her face with a pair of diamond chandelier earrings plus several rings from Chopard. Viola Davis The best actress nominee for her role in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom arrived at the awards in a white dress and jewels from Forevermark. A pair of drop earrings and a stack of diamond bangles completed her look. Reese Witherspoon Also in red Dior was actress Reese Witherspoon, who presented awards on the special occasion. She did not take the focus away from the halter neckline of her dress, taking to the red carpet sans necklace. Instead, she wore a pair of diamond chandelier earrings, bracelet and rings from Bulgari. 5 celebrities who went under the knife to lose weight Vanessa Kirby Nominated for best actress for her role in Pieces of a Woman, Vanessa Kirby, who formerly portrayed Princess Margaret in Netflix’s The Crown, kept her look sleek for the red carpet. She kept the accessorising to a minimum, pairing her pink gown and slicked-back hair with a y-shaped diamond necklace worn backwards from Cartier. Isla Fisher The actress joined in on the festivities via a satellite red carpet in her native Sydney, Australia. Accompanying her was her husband Sacha Baron Cohen, who was nominated in two categories: best supporting actor for his role in The Trial of the Chicago 7, as well as best adapted screenplay for Borat Subsequent Moviefilm. Fisher went for a classic black gown and added colour to her look with a gem-studded choker from Bulgari. H.E.R. Her song Fight for You for the film Judas and the Black Messiah won best original song. She wore a custom beaded outfit, matching sunglasses and jewels from Chopard. Carey Mulligan In a shimmering sequin cut-out gown, Carey Mulligan’s slicked back hair gave us a full view of the Cartier earrings she wore to finish her look.
