Meet Sara Ramirez, the newest cast member of Sex and The City revival And Just Like That – Grey’s Anatomy’s LGBT icon came out as non-binary in 2020

- They have a successful film and TV career with roles in Disney’s Sofia the First and Madam Secretary, but their true ‘home base’ is in New York theatre
- They will play Che Diaz in the SATC revival, a queer, non-binary comedian who hosts a podcast where Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw is a guest
Whether you recognise actress Sara Ramirez as Dr. Callie Torres on Grey’s Anatomy, as Kat Sandoval on Madam Secretary, or from their numerous appearances on the theatre stage, they’re about to make one helluva comeback when they take on a new role in the Sex and the City series revival, And Just Like That.
Ramirez, who came out as non-binary last year and who uses she/her and they/them pronouns, will play a new character on the show, Che Diaz, a non-binary and queer comedian who hosts a podcast on which Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw appears as a guest.
A recognised face

Ramirez made history after they played the longest running LGBTQ+ character on a TV show, Dr. Callie Torres, for around a decade on Grey’s Anatomy. They also had a role on Madam Secretary and were the voice of Queen Miranda on Disney’s Sofia the First.
But while the Tony award-winning star has made it big in the world of TV, theatre will always be their first love. According to TV Fanatic, Ramirez said the New York theatre scene remains a home base, and that they miss the relationship between an actor and the audience in a theatre setting.
