Where are the Sex and the City cast today? Sarah Jessica Parker starred in HBO’s Divorce and Glee and Cynthia Nixon appeared in Netflix’s Ratched – but what about Kim Cattrall and Kristin Davis?
It seems that 2021 is the year for television nostalgia. We recently saw the iconic Friends: The Reunion, and now the hype machine is already whirling around Sex and the City’s revival on HBO Max. The 10-episode show titled And Just Like That … will start production this summer, according to Deadline, with no official release date yet.
The original series aired from 1998 to 2004 and was followed by two film sequels in 2008 and 2010.
Before the brand new show hits our screens, we can’t help but wonder … what have the Sex and the City ladies been up to all these years?
Sarah Jessica Parker
The fashion icon who plays Carrie Bradshaw continued her Hollywood legacy by starring in successful films (The Family Stone, Failure to Launch and New Year’s Eve) and returned to television (Glee, HBO’s Divorce). She was slated to return to Broadway in 2020 with Neil Simon’s Plaza Suite, but the production got postponed to March 2021 due to the pandemic.
In addition to her acting career, Parker, 56, has found success with her clothing line (Bitten for Steve & Barry’s), shoe line (SJP Collection), beauty line (SJP Beauty) and an award-winning wine (Invivo X, Sarah Jessica Parker).
She currently lives in a US$35 million town house in Greenwich Village, New York, with her long-time husband actor Matthew Broderick (since 1997) and their three children (James, Marion and Tabitha).
After playing the sexually confident Samantha, Cattrall continued acting in films (Ice Princess, The Ghost Writer) and TV shows (her latest is Fox’s Filthy Rich). But unfortunately her off-screen feud with fellow cast member Sarah Jessica Parker is what really made headlines over the years.
Cattrall made it clear during her 2017 interview with Piers Morgan that she will not do another Sex and the City. She further stated that she was never really friends with the others.
In 2020, during an interview on the Women’s Prize for Fiction podcast, Cattrall said that she feels “lucky” to be excluded as Samantha Jones from the new reboot. She told Morgan that “another actress should play it”.
The 64-year-old star has penned two books since the show ended, on top of the explicit guide she published while still a cast member. She also got divorced from husband Mark Levinson in 2004, and has been dating Russell Thomas for the past four years.
Davis, 56, who played the bubbly Charlotte in the group, became selective with work after the show ended. She went on to act in a few films (Couples Retreat, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island and The Knight Before Christmas) and returned to TV with Bad Teacher (2014).
Apart from acting, Davis got involved with several charities. She was named as an Oxfam ambassador and raised awareness about global poverty, and also worked closely with the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust helping elephants and other animals in Africa.
She also adopted two kids as a single mum in 2011 and 2018. “Because my children are African-American, I feel like it’s my duty and my job to do as much research, as much work, and build as many bridges as possible,” she said in Jada Pinkett Smith’s Red Table Talk.
Although she played the cynical Miranda on the show, Nixon, 55, has had a flourishing life post the gig. She balanced her acting resume with politics when she ran for New York governor in 2018, losing in the primary to incumbent Andrew Cuomo.
After Sex and the City, Nixon dipped her toes in eclectic roles on TV (The Big C, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Ratched) and films (James White, A Quiet Passion).
