Since its debut in 2006, The Real Housewives has become one of the most watched and beloved reality TV franchises.

The show initially followed the lives, lifestyles and interpersonal relationships (read: drama!) of a group of affluent suburban housewives in Orange County, California.

After the show’s resounding success, its home network Bravo began expanding the franchise to include several other US cities and regions, including New York, New Jersey, Atlanta, Beverly Hills, Dallas and Salt Lake City.

For much of its 15-year history, the show’s various iterations have featured predominantly white American housewives – aside from the proudly African-American Atlanta and Potomac series, of course. As such, the show has received countless calls for a more diverse housewife profile. To address these complaints, the network has been working on its inclusivity and racial diversity, and has added a host of fierce and fabulous Asian housewives to the franchise.

By showcasing their lives and experiences, audiences have been able to gain insights into the everyday trials, troubles and triumphs unique to the Asian-American demographic. But who are the amazing Asian housewives that are taking the franchise by storm? We take a closer look.

Though she’s since moved on to other endeavours and is no longer a member of the Atlanta cast, half-black, half-Chinese Lisa Wu was the pioneer who first brought the reality of Asian-American life to the Housewives’ audience.
