David and Victoria Beckham’s oldest son, Brooklyn, and his fiancée Nicola Peltz have just bought their first house in Beverly Hills for US$10.5million.

At first glance, you’d think Nicola is a lucky lady indeed, marrying into Beckham millions. But in fact, the opposite is true: Brooklyn’s the one who is striking gold as he becomes a member of Peltz’s billionaire clan.

So who is Nicola’s dad Nelson, the patriarch and breadwinner of the Peltz family?

Nelson Peltz was born in 1942 in a business family in Brooklyn, New York. (Does that make it destiny that Brooklyn Beckham became his future son-in-law?)

In 1963, Peltz dropped out of the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School to pursue his dream of becoming a ski instructor. If he had stayed longer, he might have been classmates with Donald Trump, who transferred into Wharton in 1966.

However, Peltz instead joined the family wholesale food distribution business as a delivery truck driver for some US$100 dollars a week, according to Investopedia. The website also reports that he eventually turned the US$2.5 million private business to a public company with an annual revenue of US$150 million in just little over a decade.

Later, he invested in different businesses, became an activist investor and founded investment firm Trian Fund Management – that’s now worth US$8.5 billion, according to Forbes.

Forbes also reports that Peltz has a net worth of US$1.7 billion – four times more than the Beckhams. (Celebrity Net Worth puts Posh and Becks’ combined net worth at US$450 million.)

Donald Trump’s major donor – before 2021, anyway

Despite missing out on being classmates with Trump, Peltz still became the former US president’s good friend, donor and fundraiser. In 2020, Peltz hosted the priciest ever Trump re-election fundraiser at his home, with a reported entrance price of more than US$580,000 per couple, which was expected to raise over US$10 million, CNN reported.

However, he back-pedalled in a major way after the Capitol Hill riots, telling CNBC that he was “sorry” he voted for Trump in 2020. (And he wasn’t the only one to withdraw his support after that incident.)

He has a big family

Peltz has been happily married to his third wife, former model Claudia Heffner, since 1985. According to Tatler, he has eight children with Claudia and two from his first two marriages, meaning he has 10 kids in all.

Although actress Nicola might be the best-known Peltz sibling for her roles in TV drama series Bates Motel and the film Transformers: Age of Extinction, most of the Peltz family have made their mark too. Matthew joined Trian and is also a director at fast food chain Wendy’s, while Diesel is the co-founder of social networking company Twenty. They were featured in Forbes’ “30 Under 30” lists in 2013 and 2020 respectively.

Meanwhile, Will is also an actor (Unfriended, Men, Women & Children) while Brad is a former ice hockey player and the founder of Mymo, an automatic planning application for medical appointments.

He has some truly lavish mansions

Peltz lives in a 27-bedroom mansion in the affluent Bedford town on the outskirts of New York where famous faces like Ryan Reynolds, Bruce Willis and Glenn Close have lived too. The house has a huge lake, a waterfall, a professional-quality indoor hockey rink with a Zamboni machine and even a flock of albino peacocks, according to Fortune. A large number of domestic staff, including housekeepers, bodyguards, maids and gardeners work on the estate.

There’s also his 44,000 sq ft Palm Beach oceanfront mansion where he hosted that Trump fundraiser, which is worth US$94.9 million, according to The Palm Beach Post.

He also splurges on air travel ...

Besides travelling by private jet, Peltz used to go to his office in downtown New York, over 65km (40 miles) from his home, via chopper. However, the town of Bedford sued him because of disturbance caused by the noise when the helicopter landed and took off, according to the Los Angeles Times.

... And parties for his kids

In 2016, Peltz splashed US$2 million on a bar mitzvah for his twin sons, Zachary and Gregory, per Page Six. It was attended by hundreds of guests, including Madison Square Garden executive chairman James Dolan, and entertainment included stilt-walkers, live music, a hockey rink, a basketball hoop and video games.
