If you thought Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Oprah interview was explosive , you best prepare yourself for the real fireworks extravaganza. During the infamous interview, the retired royals spoke of their “financial troubles” after being cut off by the palace – but lucky for them, Hollywood seems to be paying well. So well, in fact, that Prince Harry has agreed to write a tell-all memoir, with a possible book advance of around US$20 million, according to The Washington Post . Meanwhile, Meghan has been doing the Netflix office rounds, signing off on a brand new cartoon series, which fans believe is based on herself. Yep, it’s certainly been a lucrative week for Meghan and Harry’s showbiz careers. Here’s everything you need to know about their new projects. Backed by Penguin Random House, the younger prince will publish an “intimate and heartfelt” memoir on the life, lessons and losses that have shaped him, tentatively planned for release in late 2022. The memoir will be released globally, offering an inside look at Harry’s life in the public eye from childhood to fatherhood. In addition to simultaneously releasing an audiobook version, he will donate proceeds to charity. “I’m writing this not as the prince I was born but as the man I have become. I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to share what I’ve learned over the course of my life so far and excited for people to read a first-hand account of my life that’s accurate and wholly truthful,” the Duke of Sussex said in a statement from the publisher. Titled The Bench , it was inspired by the bond shared by Harry and son Archie. Though royal reporters Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand wrote about the couple’s life in a 2020 biography titled Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of a Modern Royal Family , neither the duke nor duchess was interviewed or contributed. Chief executive Markus Dohle said in a statement that Penguin Random House is “thrilled” to publish the memoir. “Prince Harry has harnessed his extraordinary life experience as a prince, a soldier and a knowledgeable advocate for social issues,” Dohle said. “It is for that reason we’re excited to publish his honest and moving story.” It’s pretty clear that life beyond the royal family has emboldened the prince to amplify his voice, much to the dismay of the palace. 6 Princess Diana statues and memorials – touching homages or tacky kitsch? Meghan’s Netflix cartoon While Harry ruffles palace feathers and spills gossip, Meghan is hoping to leave Netflix viewers streaming with joy with a new animated series. The Duchess of Sussex created an upcoming show, Pearl , that centers on a girl, 12, inspired by numerous historical female figures. The series comes from the Archewell Productions company that Meghan launched with her husband , Prince Harry. Meghan is an executive producer on Pearl . “Like many girls her age, our heroine Pearl is on a journey of self-discovery as she tries to overcome life’s daily challenges,” Meghan said in a statement. 8 films and TV shows Barack and Michelle Obama are developing with Netflix Not surprising, fans widely believe the heroine character is based on Meghan herself. And they have a point. According to TheBump.com, the name Meghan has Welsh origins and means pearl. Other executive producers on the series include filmmaker David Furnish, who is the husband of Elton John. “I am delighted that we are finally able to announce this exciting animated series,” Furnish said in a statement. “Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex and I are deeply passionate about bringing the inspirational and positive stories of extraordinary women from around the world to a global audience of all ages. The team collaborating on the series are first class, and Netflix are the perfect partner.” Harry and Meghan announced their multi-year deal with Netflix last September, and while the financial arrangements have been kept private, it is rumoured to be worth as much as US$150 million.
