The elaborate wedding included over 100 chartered flights, a private concert by Beyoncé and high-profile attendees like Hillary Clinton, Arianna Huffington, Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra. To top it all off, the families expressed their gratitude to the city of Udaipur by feeding 5,100 people for four days.

Back in 2004, Subrata Roy, chairman of Sahara India Pariwar, held a double wedding celebration for his sons Sushanto and Seemanto, who married Richa Ahuja and Chandni Toor respectively. The Sahara India township in Lucknow, India, was transformed into a fairy tale for the grand affair. No detail was left unembellished– there were even golden napkins on the planes used to transport guests.

For entertainment, there was live music by the British Symphony Orchestra while famous Indian choreographer Shiamak Davar took centre stage with world-class dancers. A scrumptious array of over 100 different cuisines were presented not just to the 11,000 guests, but reportedly to 150,000 homeless people too. The Roy family also sponsored the marriages of 101 underprivileged girls as part of the celebrations.

The famous ceremony even made the news before it actually happened. The wedding invites, which were sent out months in advance, included an LCD screen that played a choreographed song featuring the entire Reddy family, as well as a silver Ganesha figure.

At the ceremony itself, the bride wowed in a Kanjeevaram sari worth around US$2.3 million and jewellery worth a whopping US$12 million.

Steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal’s niece, Shristi, married investment banker Gulraj Behl at a US$70 million extravaganza in Barcelona in 2013. Despite the confidentiality agreement mandated for the some 500 guests at the festivities, details of the wedding still leaked to the public.

Over 200 chefs, butlers and assistants were flown into Spain from India and Thailand, reported Times of India, while Michelin-starred chef Sergi Arola made sure all guests were treated to an indulgent meal indeed. The couple also cut a six-tier cake that weighed 60kg while helicopters flew over the wedding venue to capture every angle of the elaborate celebrations.

Adel Sajan and Sana Khan

In 2017, Dubai-based couple Adel Sajan and Sana Khan hosted a wedding aboard the Concordia-class Costa Fascinosa cruise ship, which sailed from Barcelona to Marseilles and Cannes, ultimately ending in Savona in Italy. Over 1,500 guests were welcomed aboard with Harrods hampers, reported WeddingSutra, while Bollywood rapper Badshah and singer-songwriter duo Vishal-Shekhar kept guests dancing.

A massive two-day pre-wedding bash was held at St. Moritz, attended by close friends and family only. Guests were serenaded by The Chainsmokers and Chris Martin of Coldplay, reported Business Today. A few weeks later, the actual celebration began with a three-day, star-studded wedding in Mumbai. Here, we saw the couple dancing while Maroon 5 performed.
