Nicholas Tse’s luxury homes (for his pets?), fast cars (that he crashes) and generous gifts: how the Hong Kong icon and Cantopop star splashes his millions

Besides his career as an actor and singer, Hong Kong’s Nicholas Tse now has a successful TV show, Chef Nic, where he documents his culinary endeavours with famous personalities like Jackie Chan and Fan Bingbing, and a food brand also called Chef Nic, that sells biscuits, noodles and milk tea.

Although his bakery chain has closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, his net worth is still estimated at more than US$143 million, according to Taiwanese magazine Mirror Media.

From the way he has splashed it around, the star, who turns 41 on August 29, is generous not only to himself and his family – but also his pets.

His two houses: one for his cats and another for his dog

Known as a very low-key celebrity, Tse’s life is quite secret. If not for his pets, his luxury houses would probably have never been revealed. From videos he has posted of himself playing with them, it seems he now lives in a high-end neighbourhood in Hong Kong. His home’s living room and bedroom have floor-to-ceiling windows with sea views, according to Min News. It is also home to his kittens Miso and Dashi, so there are a lot of cat towers, beds and toys.

But perhaps Tse’s cats don’t get along with his dog, because he has another home where his recently acquired pooch Mustard lives. In another video, “Mustard’s house” looks like a large duplex with a huge space for him to run in as well as a backyard in which to shower, as per Today. The house also has room enough for Tse’s drum set.

These houses are not the only properties Tse owns. He has two properties at Lyndhurst Terrace, Central, per Malay Mail, on which he had to reduce the rent due to Covid-19. Last year, he also sold his former 2,600 sq ft house in Redhill, on the south side of Hong Kong, at US$7.7 million, with a loss of up to US$1.8 million.

His luxury cars

Tse is a repeat customer with the world’s top car companies, owning top-tier models like the Ferrari Testarossa 512TR, F355 F1 Spider and 360 Modena, the Audi RS4 and the Lamborghini LP700.

Much of the reason for his repeat business is that he loves to drive fast, which has led to a number of high-profile crashes, some of them serious. Each time, once recovered, he has gone out and replaced the destroyed cars. With that sort of addiction to speed, perhaps one day he might even appear in a Fast and Furious flick.

Lavish gifts for his family

Tse is also very generous to his loved ones. He has bought luxury houses for all of his family. In 2016, he bought a US$5.3 million mansion for his mother, actress Deborah Lee. One year later, he snapped up a US$15 million luxury property with a sea view in Hong Kong’s Repulse Bay for his father, veteran actor Patrick Tse, and gave another US$5.3 million flat at Harbour One building in Central as a birthday gift for his younger sister, actress and model Jennifer Tse, according to 8 Days.

In 2013, Tse celebrated Father’s Day by giving his dad a Rolls-Royce, according to Yahoo! News. It cost some US$647,000, plus about US$26,000 for the exclusive number plate. It is the car that Patrick is most proud of, despite having a fleet of luxurious rides including a Lexus LS, BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz ML Class, as per Auto. He has used it to take his grandchildren out with him too.

And all for his sons

After his divorce with Cecilia Cheung in 2011, Tse was rumoured to have been a bad father who ignored his kids, according to News Beezer. In 2019, some local media reported that his oldest son Lucas had slammed his dad in an interview, saying that he “doesn’t regret his parents’ divorce and his father is not good enough for his mum”, according to Today.

But Tse fought back. Last year, he put a stop to the rumours by listing his two sons, Lucas (now 14 years old) and Quintus (now 10), as the beneficiaries of a foundation under his name that he has invested all his money into, as per The Straits Times.
