  • Texas-born Alan Tudyk has provided voices for Disney and Star Wars, but his performance in 2007’s Death at a Funeral had fans convinced he was British
  • Stranger Things star and Californian Sean Astin is still best known for his role in The Lord of the Rings while Chloë Grace Moretz even tricked director Martin Scorsese

Many American actors have used accents for their roles, and sometimes they’re good enough to fool fans into thinking they’re actually British.

Here are eight actors who you probably didn’t know were American citizens …

Peter Dinklage

Game of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage isn’t British. He is actually from New Jersey.

Fans often forget that the actor who played the sharp-witted Lannister is American because of his convincing accent as Tyrion on the HBO show.

In fact, Dinklage was born and raised in New Jersey, and he has used his natural accent for several roles outside of GoT.

Gillian Anderson can switch back and forth seamlessly between her British and American accents – but she was born in the US.
