Last month, many K-pop fans were overjoyed to hear that Taeyang of BigBang is expecting a baby with his wife, Min Hyo-rin.

He’s the latest in a string of K-pop stars who have recently either had a baby or are expecting one – signalling a new phase in their lives as they start their own families.

BigBang’s Taeyang

BigBang’s main vocalist Taeyang, or Dong Young-bae, recently confirmed that he’s expecting a baby with his wife Min Hyo-rin. The couple met on the set of his music video for 1am and have been married since 2018. Many VIPs (members of Bigbang’s official fan club) congratulated the couple on social media.

Twitter user @kwnjyongg said: “A little ray of sunshine is on its way. VIPs rise!!!!!! Congratulations to Taeyang and Hyorin!!! Youngbae with his dad jokes is really going to be a dad soon.”

In August, fans were shocked when K-pop star Bobby of iKon announced in a handwritten note on Instagram that he was getting married and expecting a child. It caused controversy among fans, as many did not know that he was in a relationship.

Despite this initial reaction, many rejoiced when Bobby’s fiancée gave birth to a baby boy in September. Clips of Bobby babysitting his nephew Raon circulated on the internet too, showing that he was fit to become a good father.

Bobby was not the only idol whose pregnancy announcement was steeped in controversy. When Chen of Exo revealed in January 2020 that he was getting married with a child on the way, he received backlash from fans – who even called for him to leave his group.

But many others continued to support the star, even holding streaming parties to drown out negative comments about the news. The couple eventually had their baby girl in April. To celebrate, Exo fans made the hashtag #WelcomeExoPrincess trend worldwide on social media.

T-ara’s Areum

Areum of T-ara was already engaged when she found out that she was expecting a baby with her fiancé, businessman Kim Yong-geol. As a result, the couple moved their wedding to an earlier date in October 2019 instead of the originally planned event in February 2020.

She gave birth in May 2020 via C-section, according to Soompi. She documented her experience on Instagram, saying: “This is the start for our family of three. My loving family. The two men I love. Honey, you did well too. Our baby. You went through so much. I love you.”

JYP founder and co-CEO, Park Jin-young, also welcomed a bundle of joy recently. In March 2020, he announced that his wife gave birth to their second daughter – the couple’s second child in two years, according to Soompi.

To celebrate, he posted an adorable photo of his daughter’s feet, saying, “I was just given a beautiful little girl. Two years in a row, and now I became a father of two girls.”
