Even before ascending the Thai throne in 2016, King Maha Vajiralongkorn – also known as King Rama X – had already made handfuls of headlines. Among one theme that fascinated royal watchers is his endearing relationship with his furry friends.

On November 10, German tabloid Bild claimed that the 69-year-old monarch flew to the European country via a luxurious private jet – not only accompanied by an entourage of 250 people, but also a beloved pack of 30 poodles.

Let’s take a closer look at his incredible devotion to his furry entourage.
Like father, like son

King Vajiralongkorn’s father, King Bhumibol Adulyadej, might have inspired the current Thai king’s affinity for dogs. The late monarch, who reigned for 70 years and died in 2016, particularly favoured his mixed-breed dog, Thong Daeng, a former stray.

According to the Bangkok Post, King Bhumibol even wrote a heartfelt book about his copper-coloured pet titled The Story of Tong Daeng.
