The Spencer family

Like his sisters Kitty, Eliza and Amelia, Louis grew up in the wealthy suburb of Constantia in Cape Town, South Africa. His parents, Earl Charles Spencer and Victoria Lockwood moved to South Africa in 1996 to reportedly escape the media attention the family was getting because of the relationship between Princess Diana and Prince Charles, reports Hello! magazine.

Kitty, who has cemented herself in the modelling world is the eldest with her twin sisters Amelia and Eliza coming after her. Then baby Louis arrived as the last child and only son of the family.

The controversial inheritance

Louis, as the nephew of Princess Diana, will inherit the 5,500-hectare (13,500-acre) Spencer estate called Althorp in Northamptonshire – even though he has three older sisters. The estate was the childhood home of Diana and those close to the family have often shared stories of her growing up at the estate.
Because of the controversial tradition of male primogeniture, Louis – being the only son of Charles, Diana’s brother – will inherit the estate. The custom states that inheritance, including property, goes to the oldest male heir. Thus, Kitty, Amelia and Eliza are eliminated because they are women.
