Who is Jazmin Grace Grimaldi, the illegitimate American daughter of Monaco’s Prince Albert? The crown is set for Princess Charlene’s son Jacques, but the budding actress may still inherit billions
From following in the footsteps of her late actress grandmother to partying with her half-brother like a cool big sister, let’s get to know this lovely royal descendant with these five fast facts.
She didn’t have a normal childhood
Thanks to her Grimaldi background, this 29-year-old had a roller coaster life as a kid. Her parents’ love story started in 1991 when American then-waitress Tamara Rotolo crossed paths with Prince Albert II while on holiday in the French Riviera. Their relationship was brief, and so Rotolo decided to raise their daughter in private back in the United States.

The media, however, eventually connected the dots and discovered Grimaldi’s identity when she turned 14. With rumours swirling and the paparazzi bombarding the teen with questions, Prince Albert II formally acknowledged her in 2006. Monaco’s constitution prevents illegitimate kids from claiming the throne, but Grimaldi is still in line to inherit her dad’s billion-dollar fortune.
She takes after her grandmother, Grace Kelly
Sure, Grimaldi may not have an official royal title and function, but she is still basically a princess, and a budding actress – like her paternal grandmother. She made a red carpet appearance for the premiere of The Immigrant with Marion Cotillard and Joaquin Phoenix and will soon be featured in the biopic called The Chelsea Cowboy with Poppy Delevingne and Alex Pettyfer.
Apart from catching the acting bug, Grimaldi has also developed a love for fashion and philanthropy.

She worked at the United Nations
After founding her organisation called The Jazmin Fund – which aims to help children and women in remote villages in Fiji – Grimaldi furnished her CV even more with her stint at the United Nations.
The young philanthropist, who studied theatre and international business at Fordham University in New York, has worked as a consultant at the UN’s World Food Programme for two years.
She takes her big sister duties seriously
The multi-hyphenate A-lister may wear a lot of hats, but she makes sure to fulfil her role as an elder sister to her half-siblings too. Back in August, the 29-year-old joined the 18th birthday bash of her half-brother, Alexandre Grimaldi-Coste. She was also present at the baptism of Princess Charlene’s twins, Princess Gabriella, Countess of Carladès, and Jacques, Monaco’s heir apparent, in 2015.
“We like to share family meals, have barbecues, go to the beach – everything a normal family does,” Grimaldi once told Harper’s Bazaar, describing her typical visits to the tiny principality.
She has already found her Prince Charming
Unfortunately for her admirers, Grimaldi has been in a long-term relationship with Ian Mellencamp, who is a musician and the nephew of famed singer-songwriter John Mellencamp.
