Naomi Biden’s parents are Hunter Biden and his first wife, Kathleen, and is named after Hunter and Beau Biden’s sister who was tragically killed in a car crash in 1972 along with their mother, Joe’s first wife Neilia.

Born on December 23, 1993, Naomi grew up in a loving atmosphere where the value of family was emphasised, and that’s evident in her closeness to her siblings and cousins. Naomi is the oldest of Hunter’s five children: sisters Finnegan and Maisy, brother Beau and a child born to another woman identified only in court documents as NJR.

During President Biden’s inauguration in January, the Biden grandkids displayed their bond, showing up all together. Naomi also often posts throwback photos of her sisters Finnegan and Maisy to let the world take a peek at their closeness and she considers Natalie Biden, daughter of the late Beau Biden, her “mini-me”.

In 1998, Naomi’s father, Hunter, was appointed to the Department of Commerce by President Bill Clinton, serving for three years and focusing on e-commerce policy issues. The kids grew up in an affluent Washington neighbourhood but the family found it hard to make ends meet. In an interview with The New Yorker, Hunter confessed that his salary barely covered the rent, the children’s schooling and living expenses.

In 2015, Hunter and Kathleen separated and were divorced two years later. Despite her parents’ divorce, Naomi is still fiercely protective of her father, accepting the awkward reality of his subsequent three-year relationship with Hallie Biden, Beau’s widow.

The Biden family has witnessed plenty of drama and tragedy, and Naomi, as oldest grandchild, has helped her siblings and cousins be a support system for each other, as evidenced by her Instagram post, “Anyone who wants to get to @joebiden, will have to get past us first”.
