  • Prince Harry’s cousin has taken her fair share of nasty online comments, with one troll telling her she was ‘too fat’ after she posted a bikini photo on Instagram
  • After changing her diet and working out, a revelatory exchange with Domenico Dolce prompted the British royal to realise self love is more important than her weight

Kitty Spencer, niece to Princess Diana, is just as famous for her body transformation as she is for her links to royalty, her marriage to her billionaire husband Michael Lewis and her entry into the fashion world as Dolce & Gabbana’s “It” girl.

Not so long ago, Kitty’s weight was the centre of attention. She was body-shamed, ate unhealthy food and never worked out. Then her life was turned upside down when she scored her first international modelling job, and it was during a moment between herself and designer Domenico Dolce that she had a revelation about her self image. Here’s Kitty’s transformation journey.

In 2016, Kitty got a first-hand taste of what it was like to be in the public eye and have her appearance scrutinised by all segments of society. She was in the south of France and posted a bikini picture of herself on her Instagram page. Someone commented: “Lay off the cake, darling. You’re too fat.” Kitty didn’t let the comment go and simply said: “I’m sorry that you feel the need to post nasty comments under photographs of people you don’t know. I’ve yet to see unkind behaviour do any good in the world.”

Kitty’s mother Victoria Aitken has spoken publicly about her own battles with anorexia and drug addiction in the past. Growing up with her mum and siblings in Cape Town, Kitty said scales were banned in the house.
