It’s been almost two years since Donald and Melania Trump left the White House, and while the former US president keeps making political headlines, the former first lady has been in the news as well over rumours of a divorce and her mysterious no-show at her husband’s birthday. But all the while, she has continued to be involved in various causes for children.

Here’s how Melania is working towards the advancement, encouragement and future of youths – all while parenting her own son, Barron.

Melania has her grandma duties to fulfil – her stepchildren Ivanka, Eric and Donald Jr, from Donald’s first marriage to Ivana, all have children too. But she’s more likely to spend time reading with children in need.

“Instilling a love of reading from a young age fosters lifelong learning,” Melania wrote on Instagram. In response to Dr Ben Carson donating copies of his book Why America Matters via her Be Best initiative, she added: “Thank you for the wonderful Christmas gift that you have sent to foster care children!”

Melania also wants to make sure children get a good start in adulthood too. In December, she announced a new NFT endeavour, selling art to “support my ongoing commitment to children”, according to New York Post.

Melania said in a statement that, through her Be Best initiative and her new technology-based platform, “we will provide children computer science skills, including programming and software development, to thrive after they age out of the foster community”.

She even does kids’ birthdays

The former first lady and her husband Donald offer a range of packages for paid public appearances and that includes showing up for young fans, The Guardian reported. Melania is willing to leave personalised messages for children’s birthdays, Girl Scout gold awards and Eagle Scout awards, graduations, plus new baby welcomes.

The return of Melania Trump: 5 signs she’s making a comeback

Her years in the White House with Barron and Donald saw them getting involved in fun festivities such as pardoning turkeys, and while other celebrities often help out at food banks, Melania chose to spend time with children in foster care over the Thanksgiving holiday in the United States in 2021.

The mother-of-one shared snaps of herself on Instagram, colouring and playing with young children during a visit to 4Kids in Palm Beach, Florida. “Thanksgiving is about gratitude, reflection and giving back to our communities,” she captioned the images on Instagram that showed off her maternal side. For Valentine’s Day in February, she continued her work with seriously ill children at the National Institutes of Health.

As the mother of a teenage boy, Melania has also proved to be an inspirational figure to high school students. In November, she and Donald took the time to respond to students in Kansas who had written to them as part of a school project that required them to send a handwritten letter to someone they looked up to.

According to Fox News, the former White House residents responded with words of encouragement, saying they should “enjoy learning, and never, ever give up” as well as reminding them that the “nation’s bright future relies on your leadership, commitment and character”.
