We all love our friends, but K-pop idols often go the extra mile to shower their pals with lavish gifts on their birthdays or other milestone events. Many South Korean stars form strong bonds as trainees, often starting from zero and rising to superstardom together. From G-Dragon to Blackpink’s Jennie, these wealthy celebrities went all out on gifts, buying iPhones, Gucci rings and limited edition trainers.

Here, we take a close look at how K-pop stars splurge on their besties …

1. Blackpink’s Jennie got Jisoo a Cartier wedding ring

Blackpink’s four members share a tight bond. Jennie and Jisoo once revealed on the show Knowing Bros that they became friends in just three days after going to a Korean sauna (jjimjilbang) together. In fact, they’re such close friends that they even got matching rings engraved with “Jj4eva” during an episode on reality TV show Blackpink House.

Jennie once even gifted Jisoo a Cartier wedding ring on her birthday in 2020. Jisoo showed off her new bling on her ring finger to fans via Naver V Live, saying that the sentimental gift was a surprise from Jennie.

2. BTS’ Jimin, the “gift fairy”

BTS star Jimin is often called a “gift fairy” by his fellow boy band members for how much effort he puts into birthday gifts. Jungkook once revealed on the live video streaming platform V Live that Jimin gifted him a surprise Louis Vuitton Keepall Bandoulière bag for his birthday.

Jungkook was spotted carrying the luxury bag at Seoul’s Incheon International Airport when BTS was heading to Los Angeles for their Love Yourself World Tour in 2018, according to Koreaboo.

3. G-Dragon’s limited edition trainers for BigBang’s Taeyang

G-Dragon, who is often the recipient of lavish gifts himself, is well known for gifting his highly sought-after limited edition trainers to his close friends. Of course, his best friend for more than 20 years, singer Taeyang, is on top of the list. Last year, Taeyang showed off new trainers from his pal – a pair from the collaboration between Nike and G-Dragon’s brand, Peaceminusone. G-Dragon even hand-wrote Taeyang’s real name “Dong Young-bae” on the box.

4. Exo’s Chanyeol gifted laptops to his bandmates

Exo’s Chanyeol once bought all of his bandmates laptops just so they could all play a game together. The singer shared in 2018 that he wanted to play the popular game Battlegrounds with all of the band’s members, but some of them didn’t have laptops. The star was asked if the laptops were sponsored, but he said he bought them with his personal credit card, reports Koreaboo.

On the show Radio Star in December 2019, Chanyeol explained that he likes to spend money on the people he cherishes. When the hosts asked him where he gets the money from, Chanyeol mentioned investing and property.

5. IU splashed on designers goods for Twice

Singer IU has been dubbed K-pop’s Santa as she loves to give flashy gifts to her close friends, fellow idols and even her fans. The star once gifted members of girl group Twice an impressive array of gifts, such as Gucci rings, Chanel shoes and iPhones to thank them for appearing as guests at her concert in 2018.

During a live-stream, Twice member Nayeon revealed two shiny rings she got from IU. The rings aren’t any ordinary pieces of jewellery either – they are Gucci rings worth around US$670, according to Koreaboo. The singer also got a pair of Chanel tweed trainers from IU. The other members got the latest iPhone model at the time – except for Nayeon, but only because she already had one.
