How Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin’s net worths will double when they get married: with combined millions thanks to K-drama salaries and brand deals, they’re set to be Korea’s next power couple

K-drama stars Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin – known by fans as Crash Landing on You’s “RiRi”couple – are going to walk down the aisle in real life!

And once they are under the same roof, they will become one of K-biz’s wealthiest couples.

They will have a combined fortune of US$41 million (his US$21 million and her US$20 million, according to the K Drama Stars and Celebrity Net Worth websites) plus a combined property value of around US$27 million.

So how did they make their money?

Entering K-biz in 2000, Son first gained early career success on the big screen with Lovers’ Concerto (2002) and The Classic (2003), before becoming a blockbuster queen – only conquering the small screen later.

She reportedly earned up to US$500,000 a movie and nearly US$42,000 an episode in the 2000s – and has more than doubled it to some US$108,000 per episode today, according to the Korea Portal website.

Debuting in 2003, Hyun Bin quickly rose to fame in 2005 with romantic comedy series My Lovely Sam Soon. Until his hit Secret Garden (2010-2011), he bagged US$27,000 per episode, which he increased over three times to US$90,000 in Memories of the Alhambra (2018-2019), according to Korean media. He charges US$113,000 per episode now.

The pair have also been popular for CF (commercial films). Hyun Bin was selected as the first Korean ambassador of Loro Piana in 2021 and Omega in 2020. He was also the first Asia-Pacific ambassador of Tom Ford Beauty. He has appeared in ads for Kia Motors, Samsung TV, Lexus and more. His commercial earnings are estimated around US$515,000-587,000 annually, according to the Koreaboo website.

Last year, Son became the muse of Valentino’s DI. VAs campaign. She was also the face of jewellers Pandora and Piaget, beauty brands Neuramis and Vanav, and Korean fashion house Bride and You, among others. She reportedly earns US$367,000-440,000 annually from endorsements, according to Koreaboo.

The pair said “I do” in an ad for Philippines’ Smart Communications last year, after making their relationship official. After their real life wedding, “BinJin” will become a stronger “couple brand” for ads, – just like Rain and Kim Tae-hee.

In December 2020, Hyun Bin moved into a 2,600 sq ft penthouse in the Walkerhill Podoville housing estate after splashing US$4.3 million on it. Located in Achiul Village, the eco-friendly neighbourhood in Guri, Gyeonggi province, near Seoul, it is elegant in design, featuring a rooftop garden, large open spaces, floor-to-ceiling windows and skylights, while maintaining a very high level of privacy. It is believed to be the love nest for the couple after their wedding.

Before that, Hyun Bin lived in a luxurious mansion in Mark Hills, in Dongjak District, which he bought at US$2.25 million in 2009 and sold for US$3.3 million last year, per the ZapZee website. He also has another house in Cheongdam-dong in Seoul’s fancy Gangnam district, which he bought at US$4 million in 2013 and is now worth a reported US$8.3 million.

In 2020, Son also bought a six-storey commercial building in Gangnam for US$14.4 million, which she paid nearly US$4 million of in cash. It now gives her a monthly rent of nearly US$40,000. Previously, in 2018, she sold a house in Mapo-gu district at US$12 million, earning a sweet profit of US$3.8 million from the purchase in 2015.

The rich couple doesn’t keep it all for themselves – they give back to society, too. In 2020, Hyun Bin donated US$167,000 and Son gave US$83,000 to the Community Chest of Korea to help Covid-19 infected patients.
