Swifties have long awaited the day that Taylor Swift announces her Love Story wedding. And it may be soon, with recent reports on the Grammy award-winning artist’s possible engagement to long-term boyfriend Joe Alwyn. According to The Sun , Swift and her beau took a private 6,400km (4,000 mile) trip to St. Ives for just a three-day visit, which friends of the star reported as “something special” for the couple. The lovebirds are yet to address the speculation though, and it’s certainly not the first time they’ve experienced engagement rumours, reported Marie Claire . But as her longest relationship of four years, could the English actor very well be the one? We uncover why he might just be Swift’s perfect match. 1. He is her dream man It’s not news that some of Swift’s most famous songs are about her exes – most of them about disappointment, hurt or lessons from break-ups. Rolling Stone once outlined the relationship stories behind some of her hit lyrics. But her songs about Alwyn, in contrast, are full of love, joy and hope. Her album “Lover” (2019) is dedicated to him and despite their notoriously private relationship, he told The Sunday Times that it was very “flattering” to be the subject of one of her albums. Meet Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee’s millionaire sons, Brandon and Dylan She also admitted that he was her type in I Think He Knows , singing: “he got that boyish look that I like in a man.” She got even more detailed in Ready For It with the lyrics: “some, some boys are tryin’ too hard / he don’t try at all, though / younger than my exes but he act like such a man, so / I see nothing better, I keep him forever.” She apparently dreamed about him too, continuing in the song, “in the middle of the night, in my dreams / I know I’m gonna be with you.” She also proudly declared, “I love a London boy” in London Boy . She was even ready to say “yes” to him with just a paper ring, as she seemingly confessed in Paper Rings: “I like shiny things but I’d marry you with paper rings / uh huh, that’s right / darling, you’re the one I want.” 2. They’re super low-key Swift has had a highly publicised love life dating superstars like Joe Jonas , Harry Styles, Jake Gyllenhaal, John Mayer, Calvin Harris, and Tom Hiddleston. But since she met Alwyn in 2016, they’ve kept things very low-key, and they’re rarely seen in public together. He has brought her life something normal and real, as she revealed in a chat with Paul McCartney for Rolling Stone . “I think that in knowing him and being in the relationship I am in now, I have definitely made decisions that have made my life feel more like a real life and less like just a storyline to be commented on in tabloids,” she said. “Whether that’s deciding where to live, who to hang out with, when to not take a picture, the idea of privacy feels so strange to try to explain, but it’s really just trying to find bits of normalcy.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Joe Alwyn (@joealwyntaylorswift) And that’s the way she wants to keep it. She said in her 2020 autobiographical documentary Miss Americana on Netflix, “We decided together we wanted our relationship to be private. I was happy. But I wasn’t happy in the way I was trained to be happy. It was happiness without anyone else’s input. We were just happy.” 3. His character might have an open relationship, but his real life romance is monogamous Yahoo! reported that Alwyn kept their relationship absolutely secret for the past five years and it was only recently that he disclosed a bit more about it. The British actor will star in an upcoming drama, Hulu’s Conversations with Friends, where he plays Nick Conway, a man in an open relationship. But he confirmed that his romantic life is very different from his character’s. “I think people can do what they want and makes them happy. I’m obviously happy in a monogamous relationship,” he told Deadline. 7 things to know about Brad Pitt’s rumoured girlfriend, Lykke Li 4. They bond over sad music Beside being Swift’s inspiration for her songs, Alwyn also shares the same music taste as her, creating a special connection between them. “Joe and I really love sad songs. We’ve always bonded over music,” she told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe. “He’s always the person who’s showing me songs by artists and then they become my favourite songs or whatever.” 5. They write songs together The duo not only enjoys sad songs together, but Alwyn gives Swift a hand at work too. Receiving the album of the year Grammy for “Folklore” and making history as the first woman to win the honour three times last year, she thanked Alwyn as “the first person that I play every single song I write [for] and I had the best time writing songs with you in quarantine”, Page Six reported. 4 ways NFL star Tom Brady might add to his US$450m fortune after retiring It’s true, Alwyn doesn’t only have acting talent. Swift revealed in her concert film Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions that the mysterious songwriter William Bowery in her two latest albums, “Folklore” and “Evermore”, is the pseudonym of none other than Alwyn. He co-wrote Exile and Betty , Champagne Problems and Coney Island . Moreover, he also sang and wrote the entire piano part of Exile , reported Buzzfeed. In fact, it was a “surprise” for them to work on music together thanks to the pandemic lockdown, she told Lowe. “He’s always just playing instruments and he doesn’t do it in a strategic, ‘I’m writing a song right now’ thing. He’s always done that,” she said. “But do I think we would have taken the step of, ‘Hey, let’s see if there’s a song in here. Let’s write a song together?’ If we hadn’t been in lockdown, I don’t think that would have happened, but I’m so glad that it did.” She added that all she has to do next “is dream up some lyrics and come up with some gut-wrenching, heart-shattering story to write with him”.
