Cryptocurrency exchange company FTX recently appointed former model-turned-beauty-entrepreneur Lauren Remington Platt as its head of global luxury partnerships, which is a brand-new position at the cryptocurrency exchange firm. It’s reported that the Bahamian company will continue to double down on branding and sponsorship opportunities, per Yahoo Finance.

Platt has been a popular name in the fashion industry as she has walked several major runways before turning into a beauty entrepreneur in the US. Here’s everything you need to know about the businesswoman.

She founded an on-demand beauty company

The Columbia University graduate started her career as an intern at Morgan Stanley before becoming an analyst at a hedge fund company and then working as a fashion consultant, according to her LinkedIn. In March 2011, Platt founded an on-demand beauty company called Vensette, which has now grown into a multimillion-dollar business.

Her brainchild offers premium on-demand beauty services, in particular make-up and pre-styled hair, done by professional hair and make-up artists with a starting fee of US$100. Customers can book an appointment via Vensette’s website or an app and have a stylist come to the convenience of their home or office without any hassle. Her service business has often been described as revolutionising the beauty service industry.

On LinkedIn, Platt describes her career journey in detail. “Built start-up, Vensette, into an industry-recognised leader in the on-demand beauty category. First founder in the on-demand beauty category to raise over US$3 million in funding. Secured over US$1 million in brand partnerships and US$10 million in unpaid press in the first two years. Launched national partnership with Saks 5th Avenue and secured over 400 luxury beauty and fashion clients as well as Fortune 500 companies.”

Her company has worked with big names like Vogue, LVMH, Gucci, Michael Kors, Cartier and Givenchy, among others.

Her new job is to capitalise the US$300 billion luxury market

Platt’s new role is to help FTX to scout out major luxury brands and persuade them to make a move to cryptocurrency. FTX said it hopes Platt’s appointment will help it capitalise the estimated US$300 billion luxury goods market.

“We are thrilled to have Lauren join FTX and lead our next marketing foray into luxury partnerships. Her wealth of experience in the fashion and luxury space will be essential for the next phase of growth of our team’s partnership and branding focus,” the exchange’s CEO Sam Bankman-Fried said in a statement.

Platt herself is also excited about partnering up with brands that are not obvious from the start. She told Block Crypto recently that, “the luxury market is a US$310 billion market. And it’s expected to grow by US$70 billion in the next three years. So that’s a lot of money. And half of that is being spent in Asia, and the US, which are our two biggest markets.”

She also emphasised on the advantages of blockchain technology spearheading authenticity and provenance for luxury items. “Let’s say you purchase a watch. You will know who the owner was before, and if it’s authentic and legitimate. You know that it’s not fake, so you can really track that item.”

Her mother got her interested in cryptocurrency

In an interview with Block Crypto, Platt revealed her first encounter with cryptocurrency – which was with her mother. “But it wasn’t until my mother really sat me down. My mother’s a doctor, and she’s really been interested in blockchain AI.

For the last five years, she’s been going to some of the first and earliest bitcoin conferences,” she said and further added that she noticed no one from her background of fashion and luxury have laid their eyes on the fashion-cryptocurrency landscape yet. “I really saw a huge opportunity. I was like, wait a minute, I can really help here, I can really make a difference.”

Her fashion sense is impeccable
