The 2022 Oscars ceremony kicked off at 8pm ET on Sunday night, March 27, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. As stars stepped out for one of the biggest events in entertainment, we take a look at what luxurious style was on display. The Academy Awards have long been a global stage for brands and celebrities to cement their collaborations, as well as a laboratory for designers to showcase some truly inventive designs. With young rising stars and new fashion powerhouses like Zendaya appearing in Valentino, and Timothée Chalamet sporting Louis Vuitton and Cartier, to red carpet regulars Nicole Kidman in Armani, the star-studded extravaganza continues as a feast for luxury creations. While some dressed to impress, others – including co-host of the evening, Amy Schumer – missed the style mark. Here are the best and worst dressed celebrities of the Oscars 2022. The best: 1. Megan Thee Stallion Singer Megan Thee Stallion wore a delicate ruffled high slit gown by Indian designer Gaurav Gupta. The American rapper’s Oscars debut marked one of the most successful looks at this year’s gala. 2. Zendaya Dune actress Zendaya graced the red carpet wearing a white silk shirt-style crop top paired with a glittering long silver skirt, custom designed by creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli of Valentino. Jada Pinkett Smith Actor Will Smith slapping comedian Chris Rock on stage at the Oscars for Rock’s joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair loss left social media in a frenzy. Setting the drama aside, we loved the voluminous Jean Paul Gaultier gown Pinkett Smith donned when on the red carpet. 5. Lupita Nyong’o Lupita Nyong’o turned heads with her gold number from Prada. 6. Nicole Kidman Nicole Kidman arrived in an elegant, subdued blue strapless gown with a sequinned train from Armani Privé. 7. Billie Eilish From her striking green hair and sharp nails to channelling Marilyn Monroe by going blonde and donning a corset ensemble, Billie Eilish has proved she is a true chameleon in fashion. The 20-year-old opted for a black gown for the 2022 Oscars and although she matched with her brother Finneas’ classic black suit, it was a bit of let down from the fashion revolutionary. 2. Gabriella Wilson, aka H.E.R. Cute glasses, fabulous jewellery and a gorgeous colour – but the silhouette of the dress didn’t flatter H.E.R. like she might have hoped. 3. Amy Schumer We applaud Amy Schumer for hosting the Oscars, but her red carpet dress just did not hit the mark. 6. Kristen Stewart Kristen Stewart challenged red carpet norms by sporting a black and white semi-casual ensemble. Her courageous spirit is worth cheering for, and while we loved her make-up and top, the question remains, is the Oscars really ready for hot pants yet? 7. Niecy Nash While we adore the shoes and jewellery of Niecy Nash’s look, the right side brim appears to be dangling and weird. Want more stories like this?
