It’s not uncommon for Hollywood stars to become friends – or even best friends – after working together. We’ve heard of famous #SquadGoals like Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox, or Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, who have been with each other through thick and thin. But there are other, more low key friendships that many pop culture fans might not be aware of. From partying up a storm in Ibiza to seeing each other through challenging times as young actors, here are five of Hollywood’s most surprising male BFF pairs you probably didn’t know about. 1. Jamie Dornan and Andrew Garfield The two actors recently set the internet ablaze when Dornan planted a kiss on Garfield’s cheek on the 2022 Oscars red carpet . So how did the two of them meet? Well, they were previously roommates. “We’ve known each other for 17 years and there were times where we weren’t really working that much and it wasn’t happening for us. So, to be able to share these last few months with him has been a beautiful thing,” Dornan told E! News about his friendship. Dornan and Garfield were roommates when they were new to LA, but they also bunked with other famous British transplants too, like Robert Pattinson, Eddie Redmayne and Charlie Cox. Not just Jada Pinkett Smith – 10 celebrities who suffer from alopecia At the 2022 Critics’ Choice Awards, Dornan revealed another tale from their past, this time involving The Batman actor Pattinson . “[He] sort of had success earlier, so we were a bit like, ‘Does he really fit in with us?’” Dornan said. “He was the one that got us in; he got us all the attention.” BREAKING: Brazzers purchases the film and television rights to the life and times of the sharehouse with Andrew Garfield, Charlie Cox, Eddie Redmayne, Jamie Dornan and Robert Pattinson. pic.twitter.com/EDoai2Fle7 — Le Cinéphiles (@LeCinephiles) January 18, 2022 2. Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire DiCaprio and Maguire have one of the longest-lasting friendships in Hollywood . The two met for the first time as kid actors auditioning back in the 80s and reportedly bonded after learning they were both raised by single mothers in Los Angeles. DiCaprio recounted their first meeting to Esquire Magazine . “I was like, ‘Tobey! Tobey! Hey! Hey!’ And he was like, ‘Oh, yeah – I know you. You’re … that guy.’ But I just made him my pal. When I want someone to be my friend, I just make them my friend.” The pair have acted together in Don’s Plum (2001) and in the critically-acclaimed The Great Gatsby (2013). DiCaprio has always had Maguire’s back, helping him land roles in the early days of his career. This includes the short-lived dramedy Parenthood (1991) and 1992’s This Boy’s Life, opposite Robert DeNiro. Who were the best and worst dressed stars of the Oscars 2022? The two have been pictured together everywhere, from basketball games and the Oscars red carpet, to OTT yacht parties in Ibiza and European nightclubs. Maguire once confessed, however, that their friendship is not overtly glamorous. “We are like any other buddies,” he has been widely quoted as saying. “There’s a lot of laughing and chatting between us. We enjoy doing a lot of things we have in common, like basketball.” Meanwhile, DiCaprio said he involved Maguire in every major decision of his life. “Every single choice I’ve made, I’ve talked to Tobey about and vice versa,” he told the Associated Press. Maguire’s kids call DiCaprio “Uncle Leo” and Maguire has frequently hung out with DiCaprio and his girlfriend Camila Morrone. 3. Pete Davidson and Machine Gun Kelly The SNL star and the musician have known each other for a few years. The two met on the set of Wild ’n Out in 2017 and became best friends after working on Netflix’s 2019’s The Dirt . They have also been spotted enjoying basketball together and hugging on the red carpet. Kelly discussed their friendship in a recent Jimmy Kimmel Live interview, saying that Davidson will make an appearance on his new album and that the two even lived together at one point. Kelly also said that Davidson is close to his daughter. “We went to In-N-Out with my daughter. Because that’s her uncle,” Kelly said, referring to Davidson. In a recent appearance on The Howard Stern Show , Kelly spoke about his upcoming nuptials with actress Megan Fox, mentioning that Davidson will absolutely be there. “I have so many close and best friends that have been with me through all these years, but yeah, I think Pete’s absolutely gonna be standing there with me.” The luxury lives of Kourtney Kardashian’s children 4. Sebastian Stan and Chace Crawford We bet you didn’t see this one coming. Stan and Crawford first met while working on 2006 horror flick The Covenant and again for three seasons on the hit teen drama Gossip Girl (2007), playing Carter Baizen and Nate Archibald. Although in the series the two lads are not the best of friends, off camera they couldn’t be closer. In 2015, Crawford wrote a heartfelt birthday shoutout for his best friend that said, “Happy birthday to @imsebastianstan. The most lovable #wintersoldier you’ll ever find. My sympathy to those who don’t have the pleasure of knowing him as a friend. To many more.” 5. Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff Will Smith has been making a lot of headlines with his Oscars fiasco . However, in terms of friendship the Men in Black star has stuck by his best friend for decades. Smith first met DJ Jazzy Jeff, aka Jeff Townes, when they started out as musicians. They even formed a hip hop duo, DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, with singles like Summertime and Girls Ain’t Nothing But Trouble . The duo even won a Grammy award in 1989 for their song Parents Just Don’t Understand . 5 times Will Smith lost his cool and got in trouble After their music stint, the two acted as best friends Will and Jazz in the hit 90s sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel Air . According to Cheat Sheet, the duo are still best friends and collaborated together for Townes’ album.
