Donald Trump’s first wife Ivana didn’t get a super expensive sparkler when she got engaged to the property mogul , because their prenup allowed her to keep any jewellery from the marriage, and he didn’t want to give her leverage over him by furnishing her with anything too valuable, according to Newsweek . It seems Donald changed his tune as the decades passed however – his third wife, Melania Trump, ended up with the most expensive rock in the family. Here are six engagement rings in the Trump family that turned plenty of heads. 1. Melania Trump’s show-stopping bling When Melania got engaged to Donald in 2004, he offered her a 15-carat diamond ring he is believed to have paid US$1.5 million for after securing a 50 per cent discount from Graff – though not everyone believed it. “Only a fool would say, ‘No thank you, I want to pay a million dollars more for a diamond,’” The New York Times reported Donald as saying. The brand later stated that they do not sell items for publicity value. 5 times Barron Trump proved he’s too cool for his dad Donald And Melania's official portrait is out. Tobias Kormind, managing director at 77Diamonds.com, said that the anniversary ring “is significantly larger than Melania’s original engagement ring but it is not D flawless, which is the top and most coveted diamond quality in existence,” according to British media. 2. Tiffany Trump’s dazzling diamond Tiffany’s Lebanese-French fiancé Michael Boulos popped the question with a 13-carat emerald-cut diamond engagement ring estimated to be worth US$1.2 million. Lebanese diamond dealer Samer Halimeh reportedly helped Boulos choose the ring, which includes a stone said to be an H in colour (excellent value), VVS in clarity (a tiny amount of inclusions or blemishes) and certified by the GIA, Grazia reported. It’s flanked by matching step cut trapezoid diamonds. Boulos reportedly flew to Dubai to collect the ring before he got down on one knee at the White House in January 2021. Double take: is Kimberly Guilfoyle morphing into Melania Trump? Boulos – heir to a billion-dollar fortune – went all out for Tiffany, daughter of Trump’s second wife Marla Maples. And given the ring’s reported value, it seems Tiffany did significantly better than her mum. Maples was proposed to with a 7.45-carat emerald cut Harry Winston diamond ring before she married Donald in 1993. The ring’s value has risen over the years, going for around US$300,000 the last time it was put up for auction in 2016. However, the ring would’ve been worth much less when Donald bought it, experts believe. “If we look at the diamond itself, the increased estimate is based on the increase in the diamond market from that period,” Tom Burstein, international director at Christie’s, has pointed out. 3. Kimberly Guilfoyle’s eye-catching rock Not much is known about Kimberly Guilfoyle’s engagement ring from Donald Trump Jr. on New Year’s Eve in 2020. The couple reportedly kept their engagement under wraps for a year, but it’s unclear whether she had been wearing the ring out and about as it would’ve been difficult to miss. What’s going on with Melania Trump? Her controversial 2022 so far The emerald-cut diamond has been estimated to weigh around five carats, diamond expert Olivia Landau told The List: “It looks like there may be trapezoid side stones. This is a very classic design.” She added that it could be worth up to US$250,000. 4. Vanessa Trump’s “freebie” The classic design is at least a step up from Donald Trump Jr.’s ex-wife’s ring. Don Jr. proposed to Vanessa – the mother of his five children – at a shopping centre in New Jersey in front of lots of eager press. The apparent publicity stunt at Bailey, Banks & Biddle jewellery store in Short Hills in 2004 reportedly got him the US$100,000 ring for free. The couple tied the knot in 2005 and divorced in 2018 – the same year Don Jr. went public with Guilfoyle. 5. Lara Trump’s Ivanka design Eric Trump may have also gotten a freebie for his engagement to Lara in 2013. Donald’s youngest son with first wife Ivana popped the question with a ring from his sister Ivanka’s fine jewellery line. Lara has shown off the diamond platinum piece on social media but details about the ring are scarce. Meet the 8 richest pets in the world – but which has the US$500m fortune? 6. Ivanka Trump’s flawless ring According to CNN, Ivanka’s fine jewellery line was discontinued in 2017, to shift focus to affordable costume jewellery. Nevertheless, she still got only the best when Jared Kushner proposed in 2009. She received a 5.22-carat, D flawless, cushion-cut diamond on a diamond-encrusted band. But it’s more likely to be spotted in images leading up to 2009, as in the years after she has rarely been seen wearing it. “Ivanka may feel in international political environments it sends out the wrong message to wear large ostentatious pieces of jewellery, which can be inappropriate when she is tackling socially sensitive issues such as women’s rights and inequality,” a jewellery expert said, according to British media. “Prior to their political exposure, the Trumps were more ready to make grandiose public displays of wealth.” Want more stories like this?
