How 6 Hong Kong celebrity mums balance family life and showbiz careers, from Marvel star Fala Chen and Gigi Leung, to Anita’s Louise Wong and ‘Goddess of Beauty’ Gigi Lai
Most would agree that being a mother is a full-time job in itself, but there are many women who are able to efficiently juggle both their career and family life. As Mother’s Day is fast approaching on May 8, we take a look at how six of Hong Kong’s most famous faces do it.
1. Gigi Lai
Gigi Lai took over her brother’s medical aesthetic centre when he was seriously injured in a car crash in 2007. In 2009, she announced her retirement from acting so she could focus on family life with businessman Patrick Ma Ting-kung, as well as continuing her sibling’s business.
2. Cecilia Cheung
With her focus shifted to mainland China, she joined the popular reality show Sisters Who Make Waves 2 and has taken to the stage for key events. She also launched her own fashion and lifestyle brand SeeCeciStreet.
3. Louise Wong
She’s now happily married to singer Sheldon Lo, and was nominated best actress and best new performer in the 40th Hong Kong Film Awards.
4. Fala Chen
She had her baby daughter in February 2021. A couple of months after giving birth, Chen shared an image of herself flying with the newborn as she returned to work, not allowing the geographical distance to become an issue.
5. Gigi Leung
As for her entertainment career, while she has worked less since giving birth to her daughter, who is now seven, her recent performance on ViuTV’s The Parents League was well received. She plays a mum in the drama series too.
6. Myolie Wu
Former TVB “Triple TV Queen” Myolie Wu Hang-yee has been travelling between the mainland and Hong Kong in recent years as her career is mainly based over there, filming programmes ranging from drama series, reality shows and variety shows with rave reviews.
As the mother of three young boys, she sometimes bring the young toddlers with her during filming, ensuring she can spend some quality time with them even with a busy schedule, according to WeekendHK.
