13 daring looks celebrities wore on their wedding days, from Kourtney Kardashian’s D&G minidress and Priyanka Chopra Jonas’ 23 metre long train, to Hailey Bieber’s gown by Off-White’s Virgil Abloh

Who says you have to follow tradition in your wedding day? Especially when it comes to The Dress. These days, celebrities from Priyanka Chopra Jonas to Hailey Bieber have embraced daring trends on their big day – here are a few of our favourites.
1. Whitney Port

Whitney Port wore a high-low gown that featured sheer sleeves for her wedding in California.
In a 2016 post on her website, The Hills reality star shared that she had worked with Lebanese designer Mohammed Ashi by giving him a silhouette and fabric inspiration for her dress.
“When I first pictured myself as a bride, really simple, silk, something strapless or spaghetti straps, kind of like a slip dress,” she told E! News, adding: “As the planning process went on, I decided, ‘You know I think I want to do something a little more elaborate, a little more special.’”
Port married The City producer Tim Rosenman in 2015. The two have a four-year-old named Sonny Sanford Rosenman.

2. Kaley Cuoco

Kaley Cuoco wore a custom Reem Acra dress for her wedding to equestrian Karl Cook in 2018. Harpers Bazaar reported that it took a team of 10 seamstresses 400 hours to create.
However, it was The Flight Attendant star’s gorgeous Tadashi Shoji lace jumpsuit complete with plunging neckline that actually got tongues wagging when photos were released.
3. Priyanka Chopra Jonas

4. Behati Prinsloo

Six years after getting married, model Behati Prinsloo shared an Instagram snap of the Alexander Wang dress she’d worn at her wedding reception in honour of the late designer’s birthday.
The cutaway dress was open at the sides all the way to her mid-thighs, and had a plunging neckline covered in sheer fabric.
Prinsloo also revealed the fact that husband Adam Levine ripped her dress so she could dance better at their reception.

5. Hailey Bieber

Hailey Bieber (neé Baldwin) wore a beautiful, custom-made gown by Off-White’s Virgil Abloh for her big day.
The model’s off-the-shoulder dress also boasted a long tulle train and a veil that had “Till death do us part” stitched into the hem.

Bieber went on to wear two more dresses before the day was over.
She changed out of her second dress – a sleeveless custom Vera Wang gown which she paired with a pair of trainers – into another custom-made silk number by Ralph & Russo.
6. Gwen Stefani

Gwen Stefani wore a silk Vera Wang dress to her July 2021 wedding to Blake Shelton.
The designer wrote on Instagram that the dress featured a nod to Stefani’s blended family, as it featured two hand-sewn lovebirds to symbolise her and Shelton, and three baby lovebirds to represent her children.
In what appeared to be an adapted version of the original that Stefani referred to as the “party dress”, the The Voice judge was pictured at her reception in a tulle mini skirt that she’d paired with heeled cowboy boots.
7. Kate Upton
Model and actress Kate Upton reportedly co-designed her sultry reception dress with tailor to the stars Christy Rilling.
The “naked dress” looked stunning on Upton during her 2017 wedding to baseball player Justin Verlander.
It was embellished with vertical rows of beads and pearls, had a thigh-high slit and draped cross-body strap.

8. Olivia Palermo

Olivia Palermo went the non traditional route by wearing a Carolina Herrera set for her wedding.
The fashion influencer wore a cashmere jumper with a tulle skirt and paired the set with electric blue Manolo Blahnik heels that she had asked the designer to sign the soles of six years prior, according to a 2020 blog post on her website.
9. Emma Bunton

Spice Girl Emma Bunton got married in a minidress with sheer sleeves and a long veil.
In a picture taken by her hair stylist Christian Vermaak, Bunton looked fabulous in her Miu Miu dress. She also wore a flower crown that matched her bouquet and silver heeled flip flops.
10. Emily Ratajkowski

Emily Ratajkowski decided to skip the traditional white designer dress entirely for her wedding day in 2018, instead opting for a mustard-coloured suit from high street retailer Zara.
The model got married at New York’s City Hall to actor and producer Sebastian Bear-McClard.
What does Lily-Rose Depp think of Amber Heard, dad Johnny Depp’s ex?
“I never loved the idea of wearing white for a wedding because I’m not a pure woman,” Ratajkowski told Vanity Fair in 2018. “I’m a woman with a lot of character and experience and life. I also just loved the idea of a suit, especially at City Hall because it’s like you’re taking care of business. I really wanted to wear red actually, initially … and then I just loved mustard yellow and just knew it was the one.”
11. Piper Perabo

Another bride who decided to shun traditional white was Piper Perabo, who instead dazzled in a shimmering Michael Kors gown.
The Coyote Ugly actress even paired it with a yellow veil. She and director-producer Stephen Kay tied the knot in a New Orleans’ style wedding in 2014.
12. Lily Allen

Lily Allen went for a 60s-inspired look to marry Stranger Things actor David Harbour in their Las Vegas ceremony in 2020.
The singer wore a short US$4,300 Dior dress with an off-the-shoulder neckline, a double-breasted silhouette, and an A-line skirt. She paired the dress with sassy black platform heels and a two-tiered veil.
13. Kourtney Kardashian

Kourtney Kardashian married Travis Barker in a white minidress from Dolce & Gabbana earlier this month.
The bustier-style top of the dress was embroidered with a “bleeding heart” detail on the bodice. She paired it with a sheer hooded veil with sheer sleeves attached, also from Dolce & Gabbana. Kardashian finished off her look with dark red pumps.
