Meet Brooke Shields’ 19-year-old daughter, Rowan Henchy: the budding journalist wore her mum’s glam 1998 Golden Globes dress to prom – but will she follow in her Hollywood footsteps?
Brooke Shields gave sage advice when her daughter, Rowan Henchy, interviewed her on the red carpet at the recent Fashionphile event in New York City. Henchy asked her famous mum how to succeed in the entertainment industry.
While she may not exactly be following in her mum’s footsteps, Henchy isn’t straying away from the glamour of showbiz: she’s studying to become a broadcast journalist and hopes to interview A-list celebrities just like her mum. She’s currently attending Wake Forest University, according to People.
Shields stressed to her daughters, Rowan and Grier Henchy, to make sure to find a vocation they love, according to Entertainment Tonight. She said to work hard, adding “no job is too small, focus on what you love and what you want to do”.
It seems that Rowan is stepping into the spotlight more and more these days. Last month, Yahoo! Style reported she hit the red carpet with her mum at The Hollywood Reporter’s Most Powerful People in Media party in Manhattan. Many noted how similar they look in the comments of photos that Shields shared on Instagram.
But besides being known as Shields’ daughter, who is 19-year-old Rowan Henchy?
Brooke Shields had difficulty conceiving her
After a miscarriage and seven IVF attempts, according to People, Shields gave birth to Henchy on May 15, 2003. And yet, following Henchy’s birth, Shields fought a mental bout: she was diagnosed with post-partum depression. Struggling to take care of Henchy, she even found herself suicidal, contemplating “putting an end to it all”.
But Shields didn’t give up, and instead thwarted the stigma surrounding her depression. Henchy’s birth prompted her to write Down Came The Rain: My Journey Through Postpartum Depression, detailing how she overcame her afflictions.

Her father, Chris Henchy, is an in-demand screenwriter and producer
Pursuing a journalism career isn’t a far-fetched idea for Rowan as her father, Chris Henchy, is a talented writer too. Chris is also famous in his own right as a screenwriter and producer, best known for co-creating films with actor Will Ferrell including Land of the Lost, The Other Guys and The Campaign.
Shields was very protective over Henchy entering showbiz
In 2017, in an issue of Social Life magazine, Shields was reserved about her daughter’s Hollywood prospects, saying she will only allow Henchy to act and model once she finishes university. And, despite her fame, she made sure Henchy grew up normally.
And mothers know best. Shields described the industry as “cutthroat and demoralising”, adding that “my kids aren’t missing school”. She clearly values the role of education given that she’s a Princeton graduate herself.
Shields praised Henchy’s skills
When Henchy interviewed her famous mother at the Fashionphile event, Shields commended her natural listening skills and recognised her ability to segue into the next part of an interview, an indication that journalism might really be Henchy’s calling.
“And if the segue doesn’t work or if I’ve already answered part of that question, you move on and don’t just read the questions, you interpret them,” Shields was quoted in an Entertainment Tonight report.
